I have imported a video and if i press play i can only hear the video and not see it, why is this?

I just installed the Movie Edit Pro and imported a first video in order to start editing. There seems to be no way that I can see the video on the preview monitor, I can only hear the video (the sound is perfect but the image is white). I have tried to import several videos, but with all the same occurs. With the Y key I tried to change the program settings (based on what I read here in the Q&A) but no result.

I am working with a MPEG-TS Video File (.MTS) which are HD videos. I have a Inter Core duo CPU 2.40 GHz. 32 bits processor. RAM 4,00 GB. From the specifications on the website I understand that for HD movies that might not be enough, but I understood that playback (after editing!!) might be jerky, but in this case playback is not visible!

Hi,

What are you importing and from what or where? Exactly how are you importing it? Does it play correctly elsewhere? (The digicam/videocam? On your PC with another player such as WMP, VLC, etc?)

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your response. I am importing video files (MPEG-TS Video File (.MTS)) from my computer. It are HD recordings of movies that I made with my camara. I've stored them first on my computer and from there, have opened them in Movie Pro. They are playing correctly (without any problems at all) in the normal Windows media player.

Regards, Caroline

Hi Caroline,

I don't currently use MTS files but had one that comes with MEP 2014, located here on my XP PC:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2014 Premium\Default\AVCHD.mts

Open a new project and drag it onto the timeline. Does that play OK?

I also downloaded a few others from various sites. Try this one yourself from my host:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4019461/2Entertain.m2ts

The above and the others I tried all played correctly in MEP 2014 Premium.

Hi Caroline

This may be a codec issue, however we need to know what the video format inside the mts file is.

What is the make/model of the camera used to take the video?

Alternatively use GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse a mts find to find out what is in it.

If you use GSpot this will also tell if the codecs are installed on your computer. and the video can be decoded if you use the 1,2,3 buttons under MS/AV bottom left of the GSpot window

HTH

Terry, thanks for your response. This morning I dragged your MTS file (2Entertain) in the movie editor and it worked perfectly. Later I dragged in my own files and it also worked. When I took out your file the video seemed to get slower (doesn´t make sense right?). Anyway, I don't know whether it was the dragging (rather than opening a file) or that your video made it work, but it did! I've been editing the whole morning and it didn't give me problems.

John, my camara is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 with HD movie option. The rest of your comment is too technical for me and I am not sure what you mean with it, sorry! Thanks anyway

Hi Caroline

Don't worry about the technical stuff the camera make/model was enough for what I needed.

. . . . (doesn´t make sense right?) . . .

Right - I am surprised that MEP slowed down a little after you removed the file Terry posted - that file is full HD, ie 1080p, and your camera video files are HD ie 720p which should make MEP run a little faster.

Anyway less of the techie stuff - pleased you are sorted.

I would like to add that the Panasonic TZ range are one of the best ( if not the best ) compact cameras I have ever come across.
