The latest version/update/patch is 16.0.2.306 as announced here
UPDATE: New release today, now it is 16.0.2.317 as announced here
If you have a valid Service Update (You bought the product less than a year ago) you can freely update by opening VPX and from the menu select Update Online under Help.
If your Service Update period has ran out, you can buy an extension (you should have been notified by email with the option) or you can select the Upgrade option when buying and get the current version and a 1 year Service Update for £119, including proDAD Mercalli V4 (£149 value), NewBlue Elements 3 Chroma Key Pro (£99 value) and NewBlue Filters 5 Refocus (£99 value), rather then buying a full version for £299 (including 1 year Update Service but not the additional packs)
Edit/Update: We are waiting for/expecting a new patch/update soon to fix some issues noted in this thread, so if you do not urgently need the latest (and do not have a current Update Service), you may sit around for next release by Magix before you purchase again
Is there anyway to have the digital time clock larger. Some edit programs do as it is easier to keep up with edits, for me anyway. A box that can be enlarged and placed anywhere on the screens would be the shot.
Also when I cut pieces on a timeline can one make each piece a different color. That too would helop with with 3 pieces along a time. I could see them all instantly.
Also have a second instance of VP running and be able to right click on a snipped piece in the first timeline to send it to the timeline of the other instance. A quick way to assemble I would think.
@1940 I would honestly stay where you are. The current versions will only cause you grief. I have settled on 268 because it is stable for me even though there are still minor issues that I can live with. Magix don't seem to be interested in suggestions such as yours. Only the things they think people may like without fixing the endless problems. Doug.
@1940 Agreed. I have made suggestions but haven't seen them implemented. My free update period ends in March and I don't see myself paying another amount to extend for zero improvements. I just get annoyed when they break things that have been working well from the beginning. As long as I can keep doing what I am now, I will be happy. Doug.
When did you last pay for VPX? If it's within 1 year, you can get the latest version issued on 2018.11.05 with the following new features:
Changes in version 16.0.2.288:
NEW! HDR Export with HEVC and Intermediate Codec (BT.2020 10-bit)
NEW! Accelerated export with "Calculate video effects on GPU"
NEW! Track and object colors are independently selectable
NEW! TGA Reader can now read images with 16-bit per pixel
NEW! Full control via flexible track handling - delete, copy and move complete tracks
NEW! Designate a target track for import and paste operations
NEW! Chapter export - export individual chapters using batch conversion
All Store purchases can be restored
Downloads from the Store are now also possible via the small icons
Improvements to the OpenFX effects pages (improved color selection, groups highlighted, current selection highlighted, tabbing enabled)
Import of PSD images has been restored
Resolved export with incorrect frame rate (28.4Hz instead of 29.97Hz)
If you are beyond your 1 year limit, then I suggest, like the others, that you wait until the next set of features comes out and review them before Upgrading/renewing.
Your additional questions:
1. Is there anyway to have the digital time clock larger. Some edit programs do as it is easier to keep up with edits, for me anyway. A box that can be enlarged and placed anywhere on the screens would be the shot.
Yes, select the clock object, go to Effects, View/Animation, Size/Position and the box around the clock will show up with the movement handles. You can resize and move the clock using the handles, dragging it, or using the zoom slider and X and Y positions in the interface - just like all other video and image objects.
2. Also when I cut pieces on a timeline can one make each piece a different color. That too would helop with with 3 pieces along a time. I could see them all instantly.
Yes. Right-click on it. I'm not sure if this is in your version, but on the menu near the bottom, you may see Object Color. Go to it and a list will appear. Select the color that you want. Prior to this, the method was to select the Object, go to its properties (Ctrl+E) and click on the colour box to open the colour palette. With the new features of 288, we can also set the track colour independently from the object colour.
3. Also have a second instance of VP running and be able to right click on a snipped piece in the first timeline to send it to the timeline of the other instance. A quick way to assemble I would think.
No need to. This is why we have multiple movies in both MEP and VPX. With one project open, simply go to File, Open, select the second project. You will be asked if you want to Close the Current Project, Add a New Project, or Cancel. Select Add a New Project. It will be added as a second movie. When you're finished, you can Remove the second movie from the project if you don't need it anymore. I suggest that you read up on how to use multiple movies. Also, look up "Movie objects" in the manual, as that is an interesting feature of VPX.
Many thanks John CB for the reply and the explanations.
I have the version 16.0.1.268 (UPD3) UG Code 8434 KA1.
Not sure when I last paid for anything though. Need to check accounting. Is there a place on line where I can see it ? I don't think it was over a year, but may just be.
I didn't get any email but when I start the program I get a panel that tells me there is an update with 32MB of new features to 16.0.2.317 and I should extend my Update Service then I can update.
After a few screens I get A$199 for a year. I don't use any of those addon either.
Anyway to your help. I appreciate it.
I wasn't sure what time clock to select, nothing with any time wouldn't allow selection.
The colour change is fantastic.
When I do my next edit, I will try the 2 install and will read up on it firstly.
If you logon to your magix account on magix.com, (same as used when registrering VPX), you can see the detail if your subscription and when it (will) expire(d).
NB! It may be a different account to the one used gere on the forum.
@1940 I think if the update was released within your update period, you are eligible for it even when you reinstall the program. Magic support can send you a direct link to the version you need to keep on your computer then it's a case of installing that patch when you reinstall VPX. I did this recently. I asked for 268 and 288 with no problems. When you contact support it will ask for your registration which will identify what you are eligible for. I think this is correct. Doug.

That is not my understanding of how the Update service works, unfortunately!
I think the situation is that if you need to reinstall any version after the Update service has expired, what you are able to reinstall is the version you had at the beginning of the 12 months' original (free) update period.
@emmrecs I guess that reinforces my reasoning for asking them for a downloadable copy of the patch to keep. This has worked for me when I reinstall, all I need to do is install the patch. I still think any updates during your free period should be available. It is what you paid for in the first place. They have supplied them to me no problem. Maybe not in 1940,s case. Doug.
