Patches are available during a support period. Not upgrades. It used to be the case some time back when if after the support period lapsed and you had to reload the program you went back to your purchased version rather than the version you last had access to (including an upgrade which you then lost), with whatever patch was available at the time.
Now if that happens you get the last released patch for your purchased version after your support has expired instead, but no access to a new version of the program unless you actually pay for an upgrade.(which is cheaper than buying it as a first time user).
About a month before 2023 was released, Magix was offering an upgrade to 2023 for those who purchased or upgraded to 2022. For those who purchased before that, I would say that you are out of luck. The rhetorical question is, what is the cutoff point? If one month, why not two. If two, why not three? Etc.
For any program, it is important to look at the new version cycle before purchasing to determine if the current release is old and likely to be replaced in the next few months. Also, ask on the forums. Here, we told people to wait as we were expecting 2023 to be released during the summer.
