Image Objects failures

terrypin wrote on 6/28/2017, 3:15 PM

This could well be an unforseen consequence of the wholesale HDP and HO deletions I described earlier. But I'd appreciate others checking that I haven't instead stumbled across a bug not of my own making please.

I'm having trouble playing (or importing) many of the effects under Video Effects > Design Elements > Image Objects. As a typical example, in Deco, if I try to import 'Light Bulb' (the right of the two in my case, before 'Mosaic') I get this:

The file 'C:\ProgramData\MAGlX\Video Pro X5\0verlayFX\Deko\' associated with the effect could not be found.

Video Pro X5 ??

But if I then click Cancel, the animated light bulb does get imported! If I then use Ctrl+E to display its properties, the file is reported as '2013_bulb_hd_ani.mp4'. (I also have C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2016 Premium\OverlayFX\Deko\2013_bulb_hd_ani.m2v)

Another example, in 'Comic', previewing or importing 'Bang' gives this:

The file 'C:\OverlayFX\Comic\' associated with the effect could not be found.

C: ?
And the effect gets imported if I click Cancel. Its Properties reports:
C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2016 Premium\OverlayFX\Comic\2013_bang_HD_ani.mp4

I get the same error message for Birds, Boom, Exclamation, Question mark, and Splash. In contrast, these are OK (no error message): Chop, Clang, Hah, Ha Ha and Oomph. Yet ALL import OK!

In Border only one of my 19 gives an error, Old TV: The file 'C:\2013_Old_TV\' associated with the effect could not be found.

Etc, etc.

This is in MEP 2016.

Meanwhile I'll use my weekly backups and see if I can restore everything to its state before my purge.

Note: Some of my files may not be found on others' systems, unless like me you've successively copied across effects etc over the years.

EDIT: I did that restore of MEP 2016\ProgramData (10 GB, 19,000 files) only to realise that (assuming the problem was due to my H0 and HDP deletions) it cannot help; I deleted ALL of them, including the backups!

So I can either live with those weird but essentially harmless messages, or re-install just the parts affected from the MAGIX Downloads folder. I'm hoping it's as simple as executing this file

D:\MAGIX Downloads\Video_deluxe_2016_Premium_DesignElements_INT_150827_18-43_1_0_0_0.exe

Anyone done that?

Hi Terry

. . . .

The file 'C:\ProgramData\MAGlX\Video Pro X5\0verlayFX\Deko\' associated with the effect could not be found.

Video Pro X5 ?? . . . .

If I delete the HDP file associated with an overlay effect I get the same message - as you have found the overlay will load and apply. The HD file is recreated, however MEP continues to think it is missing until you restart MEP then everything is OK.

I think the file path is a 'hard wired' default where the program looks if it cannot find the required file in the correct folder, and shows the origin of this part of MEP's engine.

. . . .

I'm hoping it's as simple as executing this file

D:\MAGIX Downloads\Video_deluxe_2016_Premium_DesignElements_INT_150827_18-43_1_0_0_0.exe

Anyone done that? . . . .

No - when I have had to reinstall templates effects etc I run the Help, Install extra content option.

This checks if the files are already downloaded in the download folder and are current and uses them, if file is not current or is missing it downloads the latest version and installs that.

. . . . I deleted ALL of them, including the backups . . .

Ooops - was this a permanent delete or to the recycle bin?

Thanks for confirming the behaviour is as I suspected, an odd consequence of deleting the H0 and/or HDP files. (Who da thunk it!)

However I do not get the positive behaviour you describe. After using Cancel to import the effect and immediately closing and restarting MEP (2016 or MEPP), the same error messages occur.

Although my several thousand unwanted INI files are in the Recycle Bin, the HDP/H0 are not. 😞

They should still be on my XP PC if I decide to restore them. Or I'll try your method, which sounds painless.

Hi Terry

Instead of cancelling the dialog, point it to the correct folder location.

I have no .H0 files in the folders where the effects files are - just .HDP for those that have been used/tested.

Hi John,

I maybe misunderstood. How can I point it to the correct folder and file when the file no longer exists? (Specifying only the folder doesn't work.)

i thought you meant that you had reproduced the issue by the following steps:

1. Delete say xyz.hdp

2. Try to apply effect XYZ to an object, getting an error message like mine.

3. Click Cancel, whereupon the effect is magixally applied anyway, despite the message.

4. Close MEP and re-open it.

5. Try again to apply XYZ, this time (and ever after) happily not getting the spurious message. Presumably because MEP had automatically recreated xyz.hdp in the appropriate folder.

I thought it sounded like an ideal solution!

------------

Meanwhile I copied across one copy of all the H0 and HDP files from my old PC (1,717 of them). Then I repeated the attempt. As the message does not include the file name at all, or the correct folder, I pointed MEP to my fresh copy. That generated an even more obscure message which I won't trouble you with!

It's no big deal. On the relatively few occasions that I'm likely to get the redundant message I'll simply ignore it and click Cancel.

That is what I meant and the exact steps I took.

. . . . How can I point it to the correct folder and file when the file no longer exists? . . .

I also repeated the test using a similar strategy except instead, of cancelling, I pointed MEP to the folder where the effect actually was, ie MEP error message thought it should be

C:\ProgramData\MAGlX\Video Pro X5\0verlayFX\Deko\

however I pointed it to

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2016 Premium\OverlayFX\Deko

which is where the files are and achieved the same result - on restart it loaded OK with no error message

Hi John,

Thanks, understood. I'll try it more carefully again in the morning. Appreciate your taking the trouble to work through this with me.

Hi John,

Still doesn't work for me!

But I proceed anyway as I happen to know it must be Bulb* (for once in English).

Whatever name I specify, the effect is not applied and a message re-appears, saying that file name cannot be found. I'll pursue further after breakfast. In particular, I'm puzzled by the existence of those H0 and HDP files again.

johnebaker wrote on 6/13/2019, 5:22 AM

@mygrandad

Hi

Please do not resurrect old topics, this one is 2 years old and refers to a different issue to that which you are having.

Read this topic and the create a new post giving more information on the program full name and version number and the source of the M4HO files - a search of the Internet does not give any results for this file format.

I will close this topic.
