import video clips from one MEP Project into the other?

kate-m wrote on 9/21/2022, 2:33 AM

Hi everyone :-)

does anybody know how to import already edited video clips from one MEP Project into the other?

Here's the thing: I would like to make one movie out of many film shootings i did. Since they don't all fit on the 200 possible tracks in one project window (and also MEP runs very slowly with all those video clips in one project window), i have created several projects, in which i have imported and edited my video clips, also employing effects.

Now i would like to import the readily edited (also with effects) clips including their audio into another project window where i need them.I tried to merge them (which is an option when you open two projects at once, but then i had two windows next to each other, and couldn't edit them together in one window. Or is it possible to drag the files of one window into the next?

Thanks for any advice.

lovely day :-)

Hi

. . . . I would like to make one movie out of many film shootings i did. Since they don't all fit on the 200 possible tracks in one project window (and also MEP runs very slowly with all those video clips in one project window) . . . .

Can you clarify this statement please - are you putting one clip per track?

Below is an example of the workflow/timeline I use for video and/or images from multiple shootings.

The main video and images are sequential on track 1, and Picture in Picture, Collages and music on separate tracks.

The video and image objects are trimmed as required and effects, transitions etc are applied to objects as required. Once the movie is 'finished' the project is exported to a single video file for playback on a device or upload to the Internet.

I would also suggest you watch the video tutorials listed here on editing with Movie Edit Pro/Movie Studio

Hey John,

thanks for your quick response, and the helpful tutorials and also your clear image :-)

To answer your question: I am putting snippets of lots of different clips on one track, once i edit them into one movie. Before that, i have many tracks full of potential snippets that are contendors to fit into the movie, that can be found on the 200 possible tracks in the project window.

Is there a way to import or merge edited tracks that also have effects from one projekt window to the next? Or from one project into the other? I tried merging and it looked like it happened, but then i couldn't find the merged track in the project i merged it with? Maybe my project was so full and busy, that i couldn't find it? ;-)

Thanks

Kate

i just merged two projects with only one track / clip per project window, so i would definately find it when i merged them. But the track of the merged project was nowhere to be found in the project i merged it with, so i guess that doesn't do the trick.

@kate-m

Assuming that by the words edited tracks you actually mean edited and exported tracks (i.e., a "new" video containing all the wanted parts of your clips), simply import each one, in the order you wish to use them (although, clearly, you can change their order later) into one track.

Then export the complete movie!

Just one thing to be aware of: each subsequent export is likely to cause some loss of quality, though this may not be noticeable.

Thanks Jeff :-)

unfortunately i'm not at that stage yet.

I'm just trying out which snippets fit where. The effect i'm using is Chroma Key Pro by NewBlue Elements, because my footage is all green screen. Also i need to lign up all the audio with every clip, because i'm recording my voice over a lavalier mike. If i have to import the clips everytime i open a new project window, then i have to do the ligning up of audio and the application of the chroma key effect all over again (which i have done in another project window before), and this is very redundant and time costly.

Therefore i would like to take pre-edited (with audio and chroma key effect) tracks/clips and copy / merge / drag them from one project window into the other project window, just to try them out and see which one i will take.

This is, because i shot footage in two different languages for two different movies, all mixed up often in one film clip. Maybe i can clarify further: i am making two movies in two languages, which results in four movies.

Sometimes there are long film clips that have material for all four movies in them. So, first i edit the track (i lign up the audio and apply the chroma key effect (which is a lot of work because i shot the footage with a green screen outside, and the light outside always changes). And then i divide apart the snippets for each of the four movies.

These i then try out, because i shot the same scene multiple times, even just in one language and for one of the movies.

Acctually, i wouldn't have a problem if MEP didn't slow down so significantly, when i import all the footage into one project. I would edit all four movies in one project window with all the footage present. But now i can only make one movie per project window, so MEP runs properly.

Thanks for any advice :-)

@kate-m I'm not exactly sure but it sounds like you're editing one project in separate parts, but then would like to merge those projects into 1,

If you edit the clips, add your effects etc, if these tracks need to align with lets say an audio track, add that audio track, make a note of where those clips are & then save the project,

When you've finished editing all the projects you can create a new project, lets call it No1, add your audio to that project, then add one of your saved projects, it will ask you if you want to create a new movie, eventually you'll have 4 movies at the top of the timeline, you can then go to each movie, Copy all, then go back to No1 movie & Paste,

Where those clips get pasted will depend on where the timeline play cursor is, which track you highlight & which mouse mode you've chosen, it pastes after where the cursor is, so if the clips that you've copied have to align with the audio, place your cursor where you made a note of it when you did the editing in the small projects,.

Hi,

I believe that I suggested to you to watch my tutorials on Getting Started Part 3, and the two Basic Editing tutorials.

Please watch this one - Getting Started in MEP2021 - Part 3 - for an explanation of Projects and Movies.

As @Former user has pointed out, you can open a second Project in a first Project which just adds Movies and then copy/paste between Movies.

In your case, I would suggest using multiple Movies for doing your recordings, as shown in the video above for Seasons.

Hey Gid and John,

thanks so much for your advice and quick support :-)

Unfortunately i have to rest my eyes until they recover from too much editing and too little sleeping.

I will try what you suggest soon and get back to you.

Ciao
