Install hick-up tragedy

MichaelD-Woodring wrote on 3/1/2021, 8:29 PM

Install hick-ups with a twist and turn. I have MM2014, MS2 and 2021 edm edition. I have mm2014 for quite some time, without one issue. 2 days ago, i managed to purchase the 2021 edm edition. it came with a few perks and some sound-loops. I run them on a dell n5110. For 2 days, i have had nothing but trouble with all the programs not installing correctly, losing all my sound-loops, vst not configuring correctly and ui issues. My 2014 has lost all the sound-loops and will not play any loop, nor load my projects, due to "file change, deletion or cannot read". The newly installed programs crash, fail or simply will not execute the normal modes of Magix quality i have depended on for years. im not a professional DJ or software programmer, although i have tried to look into the filing system and attempt repairs and troubleshoot...to no avail. I have uninstalled, reinstalled 3 times. The errors remain the same. My machine is current. Drivers also. Magix 2014 lost all sound-loops, will not sync/adjust timing correctly, lost vst communication and no longer works correctly. the recent 2 installs are also missing vst communication, timing is not correct and the sound-pools delete every time I close the program. The update "music Maker Patch 29.0.4.25" will not remain installed. I am asked to "Install" each time I open the program. The sound-loops need to be downloaded each time I open the program. I have some of my sound-pools saved, yet none of the programs can "read" an added sound-pool I manually copied to the folder path. The actual folder paths during the install do not match the program. when I change them, they are changed back each time I open the program. Its a lot of headache, from a program that worked flawlessly for almost 7 years. Can someone assist me in getting the correct configuration so that I am able to continue oin with this hobby i enjoy. I would appreciate it. VERUGALA

@MichaelD-Woodring What is your operating sytem?

MichaelD-Woodring wrote on 3/2/2021, 6:45 AM

win 10 Home.10.0.19042 - dell n5110 x64

Machine is well kept , updated and maintained. I would not believe there would be a clash with my system config. I tried the programs again today, and the result is getting ever so slightly on the better side. The timing has sort of stabalized, yet missing "readable" sections of the sound files. Its a mess. There seems to be some additional files with the new sound-pools which are filtering their authenticity through a "shop" or reroute of some sort, which are throwing off the original configurations. I did manage to add pools using the "+ADD" tab, which did load them immediately into the section in the program. The odd thing is that when seleceted the "gear" option to adjust the settings, when the pool is cleaned to authenticate their readability, they dissappear. And prior to that, I viewed the folder path to the pools and vita....and they did not exist, yet shown in the program after the add. Its a bit strange. It is looking to be more with the configs, dll and adds, and engines. something in there is just a pinch out of alignment. The newer program is a lot more complex than the older one, and I got tired of digging.

Hi

On installing MMM 2021 EDM did you activate it with the new serial number you will have received?

You are also missing 2 patches which fixed several issues with the MMM 2021 core program - see the bug list here. The latest version is 29.0.5.32

. . . . I did manage to add pools using the "+ADD" tab, which did load them immediately into the section in the program. The odd thing is that when seleceted the "gear" option to adjust the settings, when the pool is cleaned to authenticate their readability, they dissappear. . . . . It is looking to be more with the configs, dll and adds, and engines. something in there is just a pinch out of alignment . . . .

There have been some changes of file locations for Soundpools etc since MMM 2014.

Did you point MMM to the following location:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools

Additionally you may also find that you cannot use any of the 32 bit Instruments from MMM 2014 which may explain some of the errors you are having loading older projects. This is because the VST-Bridge feature is missing - this is only included with the Premium version of MMM - it is available in the Store, however you will also have several other features missing.

IMHO you would have been better off upgrading to the Premium version of MMM 2021 - there is no difference in the core program between this and the special editions - the only difference being the number of Soundpools, Instruments and features you get see the comparison chart here.

I will try those things. I was pretty sure I would end up losing a few things after 7 years of fun. Such is life. I had considered the 32/64 deviation. Yes I used the key with 2021. I will look into the patches.

1.) Should I leave 2014 off, and stick with the 2021 edition when it pertains to the install? Im ok with it. I just like to tickle the keyboard and hear noise.

2.) when I install the newer versions, i know use the key that came with the product. And only upload pools that comes from catooh, or the extras with the 2021 edition? Are the pools locked programmatically to MM? or is it accepted throughout MM software to source sounds abroad and import? I have other wav, flac and mp3 loops, but they fail to sound off when called. Just curious.

I will think about the upgrade. I am just killing time and having some fun? I will go and check on the advised mentions of what may be happening. I do appreciate a rapid reply. You guys have been great. Thanks.

@MichaelD-Woodring

  1. There are some old instruments missing/not working in the new edition. So I would suggest to install both versions in case you want to use the old stuff.
  2. In case you still have Soundpools from Catooh be sure to back them up somewhere before doing anything that could delete them. You cannot redownload them since Catooh was shut down some time ago. The pools are not locked to Music Maker if you download them in WAV- or OGG-quality. They can be used in any software that can read these file formats.
MichaelD-Woodring wrote on 3/2/2021, 12:59 PM

It is interesting that you mention using the loops elsewhere. And on another note, I just logged in to catooh yesterday, and downloaded some sounds. Would you happen to know if MM will also read other pools formats, or will i need to write a file note to accompany the loop files? The pools i have recently loaded into the newer program do not seem to meet the acceptability of MM programming. The sounds will load, yet fail to produce.

I am just going to get the newer edition 2021 and use the recent loops. I am letting the older program go. Might as well. Can i get promo codes anywhere? Thanks for the info...

Catooh was shutdown 1 year ago - do you mean Producer Planet?

Which format are they WAV, OGG or MXOGG files? If they are MXOGG files they are specific program they were installed with and cannot be used by other versions of Music Maker.

@MichaelD-Woodring You should be able to get an price reduced upgrade to the new version because you have a registered version 2014.

Catooh is now named ProducerPlanet. Could it be that you logged into that website? But you cannot redownload your old Catooh purchases. ProducerPlanet has sadly no records of them.

Music Maker Soundpools need to be in a special folder structure and naming format. At the top level folder you need to create a file called bpm.inf with information about the tempo of your Soundpool and the musical scale the loops are using. Then you need to create a subfolder for each category of your loops. You place your loops inside these subfolders. Each loop that uses a scale should have a name that ends with a number, The number has to be one of the entries in your bpm.inf. Just look inside one or two Soundpools to see how they are structured. It is very simple. You can create your own Soundpools in the same way.

Excellent. This has been more than a helpful group, and very informative. I am almost at the end of the uninstall process. I have a few files left to remove. They are very sticky and are not leaving without a fight. But I shall do a clean install of the newer version and seemingly be set for another 7 yrs 8 years. Thanks in advance.

To uninstall any program I would recommend using Revo Uninstaller there is a free version - I have the Pro version.

Uninstalling programs using the standard Windows uninstaller nearly always leaves unwanted files behind and entries in the Registry. Revo takes care of these, after uninstalling a program from within Revo, it can search for the leftover files and registry entries and deletes them on your command.

Just popping in to update. I bit the bullet and upgraded to MMM2021. Prior to install, I did a clean install of win10 and completed all the updates for the machine. When it was ready, MMM 2021 had a clean slate to root and establish homestead. Or at least I thought....

The install was fine. The loops and trinkets loaded fine. After a few hours it was completed and I drove it around the block for a few hours. Besides slightly adjusting a few folder paths, it was a flawless install. Now... after a bit of noises shuffled around, the program has gone off the deep-end, and very random time slots. I have sent the error reports, whilst adding my 2cents in the comment section. This has been happening for the last 24 hours. As of the most recent happenings, the error has graduated to "Music Maker Doesn't Work Anymore". Hence, the program will load, as if pretending to load itself into the screen for view ..................then...........QUIT!!!!

The exception code 0x0000005 states an "ACCESS VIOLATION" in thread "MuMa Location", address - 0x00007FF8FF70A22F0, Module - Qt5widgets.dll, Music Maker Program thread 1288 &11624. As of this moment, the program is a fail. It will not remain functioning and is literally useless. I cannot open the program for more than 5 to 10 minutes and it fails out of the blue.

Now I am understanding that technology will hick-up, and these may be a time for such cause. As for the last program from MM, the performance and reliability was guaranteed each time the walls were beat with sound. I paid $50 for that back in 2014. A few days ago, I paid less than $5 for an EDM 2020 package, that seemingly confused a tuned machine as I tried to fuse the two sound-groups. The times changed, so did I. I paid $80 for the MMM 2021 and cannot strike a drumbeat for the duration of an entire cigarette. How does this happen? I am confused!!!!!

I have tinkered enough, and welcome the MMM Team to RA, if need be, to settle this bump in the path. Perhaps the error reports may have some findings to explain. I'm open to suggestions.

@MichaelD-Woodring IMHO your laptop is too old and it components don't have good drivers to run under Windows 10. QT is a framework for application and GUI development. It could be that the error is caused by having QT calling a GUI function and your drivers or hardware cannot handle it, then it crashes. Of cource, it could be a bug, if you can reproduce it. But if it happens randomly it could be a problem with your graphics processor.

MichaelD-Woodring wrote on 3/5/2021, 9:42 AM

I do admit, the miles are up there on this ole beast. I did some tinkering, and the issue was at fault of my own, I'm learning. But it could be a bug yet. I run 2 monitors, in which the extended screen was out of wack a touch. I disconnected all usb, monitors and drives...and played with each screen and opening the program. What i discovered, was when i was running normally, after the update patch, i would slide the arranger to one screen and sounds to the other. When this occurred, as i would slide a loop over the system would crash. The resolution change from one screen to the next must have created some rejected feedback which sent up a frenzy rendering kill mode. So each time the program opened, it was split deciding which video output to choose. If i left all setup on one screen, or the other, it was fine. once split, crash. I discovered a few shared conflicts which confirmed what i was finding. After i tweaked the graphics some, came to the realization that i needed to use the HDMI cable with an adapter CPU plug, to make it adjust right. Cant figure that one out???

I reproduced the occurrence quite a few times, but I did not record them. I have been recording every launch, as to provide examples of the happening. If i stumble across one, I will shoot it your way.

Additionally, MMM 2021 (pink) would open their screens....followed immediately by the "Start Music Maker" (blue) screen, which seems to serve no purpose. The problem with this screen is that it is the screen for the free version. How i discovered that, is i tried loading a project as it told me "this is the free version and allows only 8 tracks". I just shut the screen and load the project from the MMM 2021. After that, everything seems to function normally. Is there a way to prevent the "free version" window from opening that I didnt see?

As of now, MMM 2021 is functioning normally. Any suggestions of changes i could make to get better performance, would be appreciated.

@MichaelD-Woodring Thanks for your description. This multi monitor problem is very interesting and if you have the nerve to do it, you should tell technical support about your discovery.

I am not sure what your second problem is. Are you double clicking on a MMM file to open it and two different versions of Music Maker are starting?

MichaelD-Woodring wrote on 3/5/2021, 11:31 AM

Indeed I am clicking one file, and two are commanded simultaneously. It has has happened since the final screen of the install, after requesting all other programs be ended prior to install. I get the idea to allow the program a successful install without obstruction. The Icon for MMM 2021 that was installed from the purchase is a Pink Bold M with 64 in the bottom right corner. The other "overlayish" screen that takes top layer is blue, and has a smaller screen with options --- new file, load project, login, news and update. The screen takes priority and must have an option chosen or closed before it will end. Its a useless screen as those options are available in the MMM 2021 interface. I checked a few of the files to peek at the order of calls, but found nothing in the short search.

I will see if i can get a message over to tech regarding the multi monitor glitch i had. It is still holding up together rather well. If more arises, I will drop some more information here.

Verugala

Hi

. . . . When this occurred, as i would slide a loop over the system would crash. The resolution change from one screen to the next must have created some rejected feedback which sent up a frenzy rendering kill mode. . . . .

That is most likely the cause - I had similar issues many years ago with an earlier version of Music Maker running on a PC with 2 monitors of different resolutions connected to the same GPU.

Music Maker can run with 2 monitors however in my experience they should be the same resolution.

Added:

. . . .  I am clicking one file, and two are commanded simultaneously. . . . .

In theory it is impossible for both programs to start simultaneously by double clicking a project file - only one program version can be associated with the .MMM files - this is controlled by Windows in the Default apps settings.

Can you post a screen shot of the 'overlay'.

And it just so happened that I did not record, yet I did manage to screenshot the app failing at that very moment as well. It must be something to do with the scaling screen size vs app, screenshot, dual monitors and copy and paste function all within a short time.

As you can see in the pic, 2 monitors, and the app on top is the "free Version" pop up window. When I click to open project i receive an alert window informing me if i am aware that is the free version and only 8 rows are allowed in the arranger. I brow beat the information wondering why the system is having it loaded in that order. I just close the box and go on about my day. The way I have to go about opening MMM 2021 is I have the MMM 2021 icon on my external monitor (while making the external my main display) and open it from that side. it seemed to manipulate the process to force the CPU to take the burden of calculation to match the framing of the program, hence remembering to open the main program, arranger and store on the right.... and the lops and instruments on the left. I will look into the default settings. And now that you mention it... I did happen to go looking for my soundpools in the c/users/public/common/magix/soundpools file location where they claim to be stored, yet there was not one file in there. So i made fake projects with 13 lines or so, saved and tried to open them after re-launching the program, i received a notification panel that the path was no longer available for those sounds. I had to remap them. Weird. But little by little im workig the bugs out.

@MichaelD-Woodring I understand you now. The useless overlay screen is the start dialog. This is normal behavior when starting up Music Maker.

On the screenshots it looks like you either have very low resolution monitors or you are using some type of GUI scaling. The "Start Music Maker" Dialog should easily fit and only take about 50% in width and about 60% in height of your screen. It could be that Music Maker doesn't like the little space it has.

Have you installed all your features from the store? Before you can use more than 8 tracks you must install the More Tracks and Formats addon.

I think it works like intended, except for the monitor bugs.

This is how it looks for me:

MichaelD-Woodring wrote on 3/5/2021, 10:15 PM

i do have a cheap emerson flat-screen as an extender. Its old too. I am working on the bugs. And yes, i did download everything from the store. Its all coming around. Thanks for all the help.
