Jerky playback. Movie edit Pro 17

Hi. I'm new to Forum.

I'm having a problem with the final finished videos. I've searched "jerky/choppy" etc but am not finding an answer to my specific problem.

I have prepared a 15min video using MPG film clips from my Handycam. Some 100 very short clips in total. The final result once burnt is that some, but not all film clips are "choppy". But upon observing this choppiness more closely, I have discovered it is rhythmic, rather like a heart beat! "Da dum, da dum". The clip length has no effect on the problem.

I have experimented thus: The originals play back fine on Windows Media Player, so the problem is not with them. When I re-load the original back into the edit line in MEP, hey presto they are fine, so I concluded it was something to do with editing/cropping or fades. I then pulled out the offending video clip from its position in the timeline in order to clearly isolate it, removed all cropping etc and then compared it as closely as possible with its duplicate, non-offending clip, but as far as I can see they are identical, only one has a "choppy heartbeat". and the other is fine. This is not a problem of playback in the editing window, because the final video has the same issue: some clips OK, some clips with a "choppy heartbeat".

I could go through the whole 15 min video, ID all the offending clips, pull them out, and replace them with their originals so to speak, but that's not really solving the problem.

Resolution:720 x 576

Frame rate: 25

Aspect ratio 16:9

I've played around with File-settings-playback: cache and video/audio movie display

Hope this makes sense. Any suggestions??

Many thanks

Hi Kean,

I was initially puzzled by your opening because I posted a detailed response on this sort of problem very recently:

http://www.magix.info/uk/how-can-i-correct-the-choppy-playback-with-movie.knowledge.802022.html

But when I tried a search here in the Forum section, using choppy with a scope of All areas, I got only 1 hit apart from your post. Yet the same search in the Q&A section gave 13 hits, with mine as the first.

Looks like yet another bug/design flaw in the magic.info site. If others can reproduce, I'll report it.

Coming back to your question, I suspect that none of the suggestions in my 'generic' reply will help, but let's start there.
