It could be the driver for the sound device. You might check to see if you have the following.

To get this screen, press "Y" on the computer keyboard, then click on the Audio/MIDI tab. Look into the section I marked off in red. Where you see the output driver, see what you have listed. With a sound chip, you will probably need the wave table.

I would recommend getting an actual sound card also. Realtek is a integrated chip, perfect for playback of CD or DVD, Blu-ray but not very worthy for recording (if that is something you plan on doing) with Music Maker.
