Keyframes not availaible

Dear community,

I am experiencing problems in Studio Suite 22. I cannot add keyframes for video effect "section". In the Vegas 16, this was done with "pan/crop" option. Basically I want to make video for Instagram (so for phone screen - 16:9 portrait screen), but I need the section to move a bit during the clip. The option to add keyframes is unavailaible, it is availaible for example for "size, position, rotation" effect. I have Movie Studio 2022 ver. 21.0.2.138 (UDP3), Win10. Or is this simply not an option with sections and I need to combine more effects together? I tried the "position, rotation, size", where keyframes can be added, but it moves the whole section rather then moving the clip inside the "anchored" section.

Hi,

Sections cannot be keyframed, never could. A section is a crop and cannot be keyframed. SPR, of course, can be keyframed.

Instead, you can use a mask that can be resized and moved.

You're after Camera Zoom/Shot aka Pan and Zoom.

Set your Movie Settings to 9:16 eg 1080 x 1920 and type in 9:16 (or whatever ratio you want; square might be better for phones/FB. MMS has a 1080x1080 preset on the "Movie Settings" page: the "Video Settings" dropdown-Social Media).

Click OK and then you'll be asked to adjust the size of the preview monitor, click Yes.

Click on Camera/Zoom Shot and you'll see the 9:16 selection box pop up on your video. Resize it and position it (you can't change it's "shape", it will always be 9:16 in this case, or whatever the movie setting ratio is) then set your initial keyframe, then away you go. When you resize/reposition the box, the keyframe for the new selection will be automatically set.

When initially starting the effect, all you need do is click the Camera/Zoomshot button; do not click any of the options in that effect box. They all work to do specific things (eg zoom in or out to or from full-screen) but aren't used for dynamic panning and cropping.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
