Hi

. . . . I still get strange errors . . . MP4 H264 AAC says "QuickTime is not installed. . . . .

Can you post a MediaInfo analysis of the file causing this error message.

. . . . These are all keeping the same resolution (340*240), framerate (20 FPS) . . . .

A Handbrake conversion to h.264/AAC at 20 fps imports correctly in VPX 16 without Quicktime installed.

. . . . the open-source software HandBrake has the codec when Magix doesn't . . .

Handbrake does not install any codecs of its own, it uses what is already on the PC.

The video artifacts are likely to be a result of the re-encoding and compression applied to h.265 encoding format.

. . . . Missing the QuickTime PCM codec . . . .

The PCM codec is present, it is the standard audio encoding format for a different video file format, and works correctly when importing said video format.

. . . . I am hoping they can add more codecs for X18 . . . .

The issue here is the camera's 20 year old video format, the JPEG encoded video stream paired up with a PCM audio file is, to all intents and purposes, an obsolete, Apple format which at the time required QuickTime to be installed.

The need for conversion occurs quite regularly with older video formats, and some not so old Apple formats. However, the conversion and must be done to an appropriate modern, supported video standard compliant, format for video editing.

Added: I have tested the original video files in Vegas Pro, and they do not import with the audio..

Has anyone noticed that those files won't play in the new Windows provided media players and yet still opens in the old Windows Media Player (If you have it installed) that I think if I remember correctly MEP (old versions) used to use for some codecs?

Ray.

Nicole, VP9 is a propriety codec. Magix will not open VP9s, I assume because it is a paid program. Free programs can open all of those "free" codecs (although I note that, even with the VP9 decoder from the MS store installed, AVIDemux will not save a VP9 file). But when it comes to companies making money from those free codecs, it's a no-go. That is why you have to activate the MPEG 4 codec in Magix when you first try to use an MP4; I assume Magix then pays the codec owner a fee.

In any case, VP9 is highly compressed, designed for streaming and I would not recommend it in any way for transcoding/as an editing master.

If HB MPEG 2 won't open in Magix, that's not Magix fault. There will be a defect in the MPEG 2. Magix has been successfully decoding and encoding MPEG 2 for decades. I suspect the weird frame size and audio of your files is outside the design parameters of Magix import for MPEG 2s. I'm having all sorts of of trouble with the HB versions of MPEG 2 (for example, you can't even export MPEG 2 in an MPG container) which would export out of AVIDemux.

Magix won't import some types of MKV, so just export form HB as MP4. Again, there must be something odd about a bog-standard MP4 from HB if Magix says it needs the QT codec.

@CubeAce

Hi Ray

I noticed that too and Films&TV does not even attempt to download a codec for the C330 MOV files, unlike the older Windows media Player.

@nicolesharp100

Hi

I will keep trying more codecs from HandBrake but otherwise it may be easier to rotate the video in Magix without audio.

The rotation of the video in any video editor is not dependant on the audio format or its prescence.

For you to test I have uploaded my Handbrake conversion, of the Pendulum video file to here , download and try importing into VPX and rotate.

We still need the MadiaInfo data on the converted file (MP4) that is still causing the Quicktime popup to appear.
