Hi,

Assuming that you did not turn off the automatic backup feature, then create a new project, then File, Load Backup Project, and you'll get a list of the backups. Select the most recent.

On two occasions recently MEP has not been auto-backing up my project, despite the regular 10-minute zapping across the screen. I was shocked to find a project I had been working on for months crashed and wasn't being backed up. Fortunately, I was able to restore it from the previous night's system backup.

I had to save it with another name and then open it again; then the auto backup started working.

As Richard (RFMMARS) said a couple of decades ago re MEP... "Save often". And if it's a critical project, save it with a new name regularly.

Hi Alwyn.

That's a good point. I have always used Save As at the closure of a session and given it a V1, V2' V3 suffix (or variation thereof) . Then save at V1 on the fourth save. Most of the time in case I did something earlier I regretted doing.

Hello. Thanks for the previous advice - it worked. BUT I have gone to open my project only to find the most recent version visible is from nine days ago. I work on it every evening and am baffled. I genuinely cannot locate it. AAProds: can you describe the process you used to find your missing project? Thanks.

@MCK I back up my computer every night, so I was able to find an uncorrupted version of the MVP for my project from the previous day.

You could try this method.

click anywhere in the type search box bottom of taskbar at left corner, pop up box appears,

click on File Explorer options, click view, then make sure show hidden files and folders is ticked.

Click c:/windows/user/yourprofilename/AppData/Local/ and then search for your software version and double click it.

Assuming you mean the backup project was loaded.

The auto backup numbers the end of the backups with 0 - 9, however the backup is a rotating process once 9 is reached it loops round and starts a 0 and replaces the oldest backup - use the date/time to locate the newest. You can see if they exist using Windows Explorer - the backups are in the same folder as the original project file.

In the example below you can see that Out-takes_BAK2.MV_ is the latest version, . . . .BAK4 being the oldest. BAK 3 is missing because the project was resaved with a different name when finished and paced in my finished projects folder - not seen in the image.
