Hi

Please do not post the same question multiple times.

This is a user forum and the speed at which you get a reply will depend upon the timezone the responder is located in.

. . . . why the preview windows playback looks so  terrible . . . .

What do you mean by this ? Please a clear explanation of the problem - a vague comment does not help us help you.  Your computer specification would also help - see this post.

MEP 2014 does not have the Preview window display options as in previous versions - however making a guess at what you mean, I would suspect the play back is jerky - in which case open the projects settings ( E key ) and check the Proxy files option

This will speed up the preview window and ensure smoother playback. It does slow down the initial loading of files to the timeline and if you do this on an existing project it wil take a short while to generate the proxy files, though once they are generated loading speed returns back to normal.

Thank you john for your help..  i sorry i did not explain myself very well all i was referring was (dont know technical terms ) the window that plays video you are editing, it seemed very rough/pixelated comapared to magix 17 that i have been using (without one issue ) but you have helped a tonne, so again thank you very much :)

That was the original meaning I thought you meant, however I did make the assumption - which I should have asked about - that you were editting HD video.

Again the poor quality may have been the result of a playback issue which the proxy files improve considerably.

Has the quality improved when using proxy files?

First again thanx for all the help :) but il tell you how i begin a edit,

**when ever i start a new vid ( i always just drag n drop from desktop into editing area, iv always done it like     that ) and i get this (never once had a issue )

*EG.. the active movie has a resolution of 1920x 1080 (16:9), 25fps.                                                                           the file "EXAMPLE.mp4" has a resolution of 1280x 720 (16:9), 23:98fps

if you wish to adjust the movie and video moniter settings to the imported file click on adjust.....                            (iv always clicked ADJUST!!! ) as i prefer to use use orig file/video settings.. but after i click adjust  i got this because before i started retrying same footage/file i went into and changed the settings like you suggested

**An error accurred during proxy rendering!

the folder containing the source material may be read-only or does not have any hard drive space available on the destination dive.

The aim of proxy rendering is to adopt the properties of the source material, this includes aspect ratio, interalace settings, and frame rate, try exporting the file with another setting

Once the file says the error and i just click ok the file still loads into the program but its not using the prxy settings as you suggested??                                                                                                                                                   So i havent a clue...? im sory to ask once more but maybe you can help once again. thank you.

PS.. on a unrelated note, i tried importing a a AVCHD video (.m2ts) file and the it took forever to render, but the the audio was like it was in fast forward, completely out of wack, and even if i  seperated them or removed either audio or video and just left one inside the edit area with every press of the play it would re-RENDER, and take for ever (video is only 4 mins long ) and two out of 3 times freeze the program..??

Hi,

Try importing again but do not adjust and see how that affects subsequent operations.

Hi

. . . . i always just drag n drop from desktop into editing . .

I think that is the cause of this message

. . the folder containing the source material may be read-only or does not have any hard drive space available . . . .

Never put files on the desktop ( this includes all types of files ) - the filepath length when creating the proxy files can become too long, depending on your Windows version, for Windows to handle, which I think is what is causing the error message.

The video files should be in a folder in the Documents ( My Documents) folder of your computer - you may find MEP has already created a projects folder for you

Look at the program settings, on the Folders tab you will find a location where MEP thinks the Project are.

Note: My filepaths will be different to yours because I am using a second hard drive for all my data.

Try creating a folder for the project in this location and move all the video files from the desktop to this folder and then start a new project, saving it in the same folder.  You should now find that the folder you created appears in the Import tab media pane some thing like this

from here you can open the project folder and put the video on the timeline, the proxy files will be created in the project folder.

Note: in the image above each folder is an individual project.

Here is an example of the folder structure I use

You do not have to follow this,  however an organised structure will help you find things easier.

Hello again, i did what you suggested, and found the project path eg

C:\users\user\documents\magix edit pro 2014, within there i created a new folder, then added the files from the desktop folder i had been using, then i restarted magix and from within magix i went to projects found the folder i had just created eg NEW FOLDER, then from there i used the lil icon that says, import current file into the arranger.

but then i get the proxy ERROR message again arghhhhhhh..
