Magically video clips are being flipped upside down and any attempt to slow a clip down results is stuttering of the footage. Nothing is being selected to flip the footage upside down. It is just happening randomly. I flip it back to correct position but that is when the skipping occurs. The skipping is not only in playback but also in the export product. This is happening as my renewal is up. I tend to have MAJOR issues every time the app is set to expire.
I very seriously doubt if the issues you are seeing have anything at all to do with the app being set to expire! And to title your post as "Magix is glitching" is rather bizarre; "Magix" is the company, not the program.
However, first can we know exactly which version and variant of MEP you have? Then, please tell us a lot more about your computer. This post will show you the sort of information detail that is extremely helpful to fellow-users.
And then, please tell us rather more about the source of your video files. The free MediaInfo is invaluable for this, simply copy and paste here the results from the Text view. Are these files from a mobile phone, by any chance? It would seem that the metadata might be leading MEP to think the files should be rotated 90 degrees. And when you say that any attempt to slow a clip down results in stuttering could well be caused by the fact that the footage is Variable frame rate, something which is typical of a lot of mobile phone footage.
Magix has been an awesome app. I had someone on interwebs suggest that I reimport the file as it relates to cache-reference confusion. I just tried that and it worked. I hope to step up to a more robust version of Magix software soon.
. . . . I had someone on interwebs suggest that I reimport the file as it relates to cache-reference confusion. . . . .
Where did you find this - a link would help?
You did not answer @emmrecs questions regarding the source of the video files.
. . . . Magix has been an awesome app. . .
It still is - if the video files are from a mobile, there are 2 known issues:
Orientation:
The correct orientation for taking video on a mobile for editing is Landscape - on most mobiles the correct landscape orientation is with the bottom of the phone in your right hand - this avoids the majority of the rotation issues. If you must record in a vertical (Portrait) format then:
If your project is in Landscape you have to correct the rotation issue after import and either accept that the video is going to be Pillar boxed, ie black bars to left and right, or severely crop the video.
If you need to export in Portrait mode, eg for Instagram, see this tutorial
Variable frame rate:
This is the main cause of the issues you are seeing with speed adjustment, it also causes issues with audio syncing.
To correct this you need to run the video clips though a video converter, eg Handbrake, to get the frame rate to constant.
When you say files are stuttering when slowed down or being flipped. Has it been on just recent projects or old ones?
Is this happening only on playback?
Are you using effects you don't always use?
Is the project much longer than previous projects?
Are the files being used on your C: drive?
Are you using more tracks than usual?
How much ram does your system have?
All of the above could have a bearing on the issue you are experiencing. It is difficult to tell if you don't give as much information as possible including system specs and current Windows version and build. Otherwise the people trying to help are having an enormous game of twenty questions.
. . . . Same handcam I have been using with this app for years . . . .
Detail is everything when trying to diagnose an issue. Please provide all the information asked for, vague comments like the above do not result in answers, only more questions and frustration.
In addition to previous requests for information:
what is the camera make model?
download and install MediaInfo and the analyse one of the video clips that is giving the rotation issue - post the results, in their entirety, from the Text view (copy and paste).
Just using the same speed effect factor that I have been using for years. All is good when imported and worked on during the initial use of the app. Then the next time I open it, all is flipped like magic. Then I flip it back over and slow down the footage in editing. Then in playback and export the footage stutters. Brand new laptop that has no problem editing simple projects. But hey no worries. Forums can be tedious, erroneous, and vague. This is a glitch with the app so I will try to resolve with Magix which will take much time.
What a very unfortunate attitude is shown in your latest reply!
Forums can be tedious, erroneous, and vague
Perhaps that would be better expressed as Forums can be tedious, erroneous, and vague if the person raising the issue completely fails to fully answer any question he is asked. I would really like to know exactly which part of which reply you have received is either tedious, erroneous or vague.
Clearly you do not have to respond positively to what is asked of you; equally clearly, fellow-users who are prepared to freely give their time to attempt to help you are not obligated to do so.
I wish you well in your desire to have Magix resolve the issue for you.
