MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2013 Premium-chapter menu text is cut

Mallgan wrote on 1/26/2014, 2:15 PM

I´m using MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2013 Premium and have a problem which I can´t solve. When I create chapters and menu text for each chapter, it often happens that the the end of the text is cut when I reopen the project which means that I have to edit the chapter text again.  I have removed the option "Shorten menu to fit template". What to do about this?

Hi,

Your chapter name text is too long.

Ask yourself "why do I want any chapters indicated in the editor?" If the answer is anything other than "So that they show up in the menu when I go to Burn a disk" then you probably do not need chapters.

There is a limit to the number of characters that you can put in the chapter name even though the field allows more. Why? Go to Burn and look at the menu names which will contain the text that you indicated as the chapter names in the editor. If you had too many characters, the text will be truncated. Now click on a chapter name under navigation and you will see the secondary menu with the chapters and only a portion of the chapter name on the preview screen if the text was long, and probably even less. Do you really want a lot of text here? Probably not, which is what Magix assumed. You want to limit the text to something that a viewer can see quickly to make a decision as to which button to press. Less is better.

Furthermore, whatever you type in the movie editor as a chapter name/text shows up only the first time that you go to the Burn editor. You can change the name/text on the Burn screen. Now go back to the movie editor and you will see that the chapter name did not change. Now change the chapter name to something simple, like '123456' then go back to the menu in Burn. Nothing changed in the Burn menu; whatever was sent to the Burn menu the first time or was modified in the Burn menu previously is still there. It has totally ignored what you changed in the movie editor. The only thing that is important to the Burn menu is the location of the chapter in the movie. If you move the chapter marker, the menu will point to the new location, but it totally ignores changes to the text.

Thus, long strings in the chapter name are useless to the viewer and Magix truncates them. If your chapter name was long initially in the video editor, when you go to the Burn menu, you will see that the text has been truncated. You exceeded the maximum. I can agree that Magix should put a limit on the number of characters that one can type into the chapter name, but they didn't, so we have to live with it.

Why do changes in the Movie editor chapter name not appear in the Burn editor? Simple, if you modified the text to fit your menu, changed the size, font and colour, then you really don't want any changes from the Movie editor to mess this up. And Magix makes sure that this does not happen.

Bottom line, the Chapter name should be short and indicative of the subject matter and will be used by the Burn menu, but only the first time. Renaming chapters in the Burn editor has no impact on the chapter names in the movie editor and vice versa after the first time that Burn is selected. You can rename the chapters in the Burn editor to show only what you want the viewer to see on the screen, but this has no impact on the chapter names already indicated in the movie editor. Remember, viewers do not want to read a lot of text just to click on a button to view your beautiful movie. Chapter names that are too long will be truncated and when you save, leave the program and come back, you will see the truncated version, which is what happened to you. Do not exceed this limit.

Enjoy!
