Magix Movie Edit Pro 2014 Crashing regularly

jj3125 wrote on 2/18/2014, 9:11 PM

When compiling video, loading, switching between tabs, playing. There seems to be no correlation between what I'm doing and when it crashes. There's no error message, it just stops and I have to go to the task manager and end the process. Magix is up to date. My Graphics drivers are up to date.

I've been monitoring my CPU and Ram and haven't noticed any spikes. Generally I'm working with HD footage (.MOV) off my Canon DSLR and sometimes (.Mp4) off the GoPro. Generally I have no effects, just video and audio.

The only think I can think of is that I use a USB3 portable hard drive to work from, as I'm constantly on the move and switching between my laptop and my desktop. I have no problems on my laptop (everything runs much slower because it's a less powerful machine, but no crashes). The Deskop crashes about every 30mins to an hour.

Hi,

Are you sure that your Microsoft and Magix softwares is up to date on your Desktop?
Same versions? And Dktp drivers?

Do you have an Antivirus software on your Desktop?

Maybe repair or reinstall with update you Magix software should solve your problem.

I hope this will help you; Good luck.

Thanks for the response.

To answer your questions: I am running Movie Edit Pro 2013 on the Laptop, 2014 on the Desktop (2014 is the primary and I just do small edits on the laptop when I'm on site or travelling). I have AVG antivirus, Malwarebytes & CCleaner on the Desktop. If I click online update in Magix it tells me I'm up to date. Windows update tells me I'm up to date. Graphics drivers are up to date.

I will give Magix a reinstall. It's disappointing because after all the trouble I had with 2013, 2014 version works like a chram in every other aspect. I know I had lots of problems with 2013 when using different file types in the same project... Would this be an issue?

I will post again after reinstall and testing.

If this solution don't solve anything, Maybe you can try to install MEP2014 on your desktop too, and try to use the both on the laptop to show if the same errors are occuring.

keep calm and courage

Hi

The PC may be turning off the USB hubs/ports to save power.

You can stop this happening by modifying the USB ports Power settings in Device Manager - uncheck 'Allow this computer to turn off this device' for all USB hub present

Hi

. . . Will leaving all my USB connections on drain resources? Can I just turn the USB3 ports permanently on as opposed to all of them? . . .

The power settings are for comliance with the energy standards for reducing power consumption, for a PC there is no problem leaving the ports permanently powered.

For a laptop there may be a significant shortening of battery run time if the device attached is powered from the USB.
