Major Problem With MEP 17 Plus HD

wikkedwiz wrote on 11/9/2013, 11:00 AM

I'm using MEP 17 Plus HD.I have a project that only has video files and a few titles. The only effects that are being used are simple crossfades. When i'm trying to export the files it crashes suddenly Then when I re-open it and try to export it will start the p[rocess and then after about 3 to 5 minutes it will crash with an error that says Videodeluxe.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close etc..I have uninstalled completely and re-installed and I'm getting the very same thing. I've opened different projects and exported them with success. I am in extreme need of help because I have received advance payments for this video and right now I'm looking like an idiot. Please help me ASAP..

Hi,

I think there must be corruption in the project file. Try successively and methodically splitting into halves, saving each separately, until you've hopefully isolated the guilty section. Remake that and then bring all the good parts back.

Rather like finding the broken one in an old set of Xmas tree lights.

Hi

In addition to Terry's post - if you do not find the bad file then try the following procedure.

1. Start MEP and a blank project.

2.  Reset the program to its default settings File, Settings, Rest program . . .

3.  Start a new project and save it immediately..

4. Using File, Manage movies, Attach select the 'bad' project and click OK - do not close the open project if asked.

You will now have 2 movies in one project.

5.  Select all the objects in the 'bad' timeline and copy them (Ctrl + C)

6.  Switch to the empty timeline - select  the Movie reel just above the left end of the timeline to get the drop down menu

7.   Paste the objects you copied from the 'bad' movie.

8.  Switch back to the 'bad' movie timelinethen select File, Manage movies, Remove from project.

You should now have one timeline in the project

9.  Save the project and try to export again.

HTH

Thx to the both of you Mr. johnebaker and Mr terrypin. When you guys made your suggestions I tried the both of them to no avail(at that time...I'll get back to this)..

So then I  went ahead and sent an email to MAGIX support right along with a specs using syschk that they sent me. Well it turns out acoording to their REQUIREMENTS my system was in NO WAY setup for video editing...

"Dear Mr. Williams,

Thank you for your message.

Please let me first of all mention that your operating system is Windows XP. I had a look through the systemcheck results and have to say that your computer is not made for Video Editing at all. Your processor as well as the graphics card do not meet the minimum system recommendations for this program.

You can try doing those driver updates as well as checking the Memory errors but besides this there is nothing we can do for you if it still does not work on this computer.".....

HUH???!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!???

ok so this is what I did..my files were already on an external drive so i installed MEP 17 on my laptop and moved the drive over to the laptop, opened up the project, exported and all was good from that system...So then I got to questioning maybe my system isnt made for video but then I got to thinking again  "wait...I've produced numerous videos on my desktop..I'm not gonna settle for that excuse that MAGIX gave me."

SOOOO...here's what happened next...my computer suddenly starts a process over booting up/getting to desktop/move slow while trying to access programs/reboot and start the process all over again...so after a day or so (not ALL DAY) I let the computer sit and then on a Thursday evening I tried something..

When my computer boot up at 1 point before it gets to the desktop it will show the internal temperature of the cpu..a normal/fresh start in the morning shows an internal temp of about 22 degrees...well I noticed a few times that on initial boot it shows the 22 degree temp but after it goes thru the cycle of boot/desktop reboot etc...i see that the internal temp has jumped from 22 to 53 degrees...BINGO!!!!...this led me straight to my problem..the cpu was overheating which led me to pull the cpu out and clean/dust the fans off..

Turns out the cpu wasn't getting the proper ventilation...so with that said after a reaaaalllllllllll good cleaning my MEP17 Plus HD on my desktop THAT MAGIX SAYS ISN'T SETUP FOR is working like a charm...

Once again thx to you gentlemen for your rapid responses/suggestions..

Hi,

Pleased to hear you fixed it and thanks for the feedback, which sadly is all too rare.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you about that poor reply from MAGIX. I'm cheerfully still using XP (32 bit) with 4 GB physical RAM (around 3 GB usable by XP). I'm overdue for my next PC and know I'd get performance improvements from more RAM and faster CPU, but dread the hassle!

Hi

. . . . Well it turns out acoording to their REQUIREMENTS my system was in NO WAY setup for video editing... . . .

IMHO I would agree totally with them because:-

. . . . x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9 . . . .

Is a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 Northwood C single core processor.  Minimum requirement is a Pentium dual core processor

. . . Total Physical Memory 3,072.00 MB . . . Available Physical Memory 1.93 GB . . . Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB . . . Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB . . . .

These figures indicate insufficient memory resources are available - increasing physical memory will not be effective because the version of Windows XP stated is the 32 bit version which can only use ~ 3.2 GB of RAM.

Increasing Virtual RAM further will not give a significant improvement in performance because of the processor.

For HD editting then the minimum spec requirements jump significantly.  Even then these are minimum requirements and is better to exceed them by quite a margin for decent performance eg double the amount of RAM and a 64 bit version of Windows.

Going to the other extreme of over specification for example, a very high end gaming machine with a blisteringly fast dual graphics card can be self defeating - the card may not be supported or will only be used in single mode,

John

Hi John,

Ah, that is indeed a significant difference. Mine is quad core. So looks like MAGIX were strictly right after all.

gentlemen my computer very well might not meet the requirements but it's working without anymore problems so I'm good..I've edited and re-edited and re-re-edited a 32 minute video with transitions, fades, titles, etc with no problewm so I'm good...once again thx for your responses
