MEP 16?

CarpentersMate wrote on 4/25/2019, 4:30 PM

Sorry I thought I should start a new thread since I contributed to the old thread getting too confused.

As John CB pointed out:

"the question is, what is the last version of MEP before the Update Service started?" I'm looking for a version 'Without the Update Service' but still offering H264 Codec and optimized for HD?

The versions I currently have:

Sorry again for all the confusion (you guys have been patient)

Apparently Movie Edit Pro Plus 2017 also has the 'Update Service.' Maybe CubeAce is correct in that MEP 2016 could be 'the last version' before designing the software with Update Serivice? As explained I'd like to have the option of installing fixes or bugs 'manually'. I rather like the feel of working in a stationery platform (not subject to constant change) waiting for new Templates to load which I don't need or use. Something like Movie Edit Pro 15.

Thanx Again!

Hi There CubeAce

You mentioned: "As far as I can tell the other one is MEP Pro plus 18" Unless I've got these darn names wrong, I believe I do have 'Plus 18' which does have the Update Service. The back label says 'Magix Movie Edit Pro 2018 Plus' Its the Illustration/Box that shows the girl in the Kayack (the file I included above).

Hi @CarpentersMate

I still have MEP16 installed on my older PC and it is called MEP16 Plus HD. It does have limited H.264 export templates ie HDTV 1920x1080 albeit at a modest 6000kbps, and SD also. From memory it's performance was a little below par in the timeline preview with HD and MEP17 Plus HD was an improvement. 17 Plus also supported AVCHD2 spec which handled and exported 1080 50P which is output by a lot of current Handycams and Bridge cameras.

Let me know if you want any more specific info or testing carried out.

@CarpentersMate

I think I understand why you seem to be worried about the Update Service potentially causing problems to a previously-stable system if one chooses to install any offered update. But that is the point; I have never felt "forced/obliged/whatever" to carry out the update if I do not wish to do so, either at the time it is initially offered (by on-screen message) or later.

I have never encountered a situation where Magix force me to update/upgrade by downloading and installing any new software without my express permission.

@CarpentersMate

Again I'd like to find an older copy with NO Update Service ...

Well....MEP16 Plus HD (NOT 2016) is an older copy, like MEP15 Plus, with H.264 codec and an update online function that does not interact with the program until you go to the top menu and select "Online Update ". IOW - if you installed these early versions and were happy with the performance and possible bugs then you would just never select that option in the top menu.

Where you would get this SW now though, I do not know.

Or are you looking for the newest version possible that will not prompt you to update, like say MEP2013 or 2014 (although not sure when they started the "Phone Home" updating when the program opened, however) ?

@Scenestealer

Hi Peter,

As I pointed out in the other thread, it is important to get the naming right. Unfortunately, @CarpentersMate put MEP16 in the header when he meant MEP2016. I also pointed out that MEP2016 (15.0.0.114) is the last version that I have that does not have the Update Service. I did not get MEP2017, or at least, I can't find it. I have MEP2018 and MEP2019.

@CarpentersMate

You may be able to find a boxed copy of MEP2016 Plus or Premium somewhere. Just make sure to not get the basic version or you will quickly be disappointed as some of the built-in functions that are the most useful are not available.

BTW, MEP2016 was the last version that seemed to have the least problems. There is no OFX for plugins. It is the last version that I have in which right-clicking on the audio part of a video clip shows the feature "Edit wave externally."

JohnCB That's a good point (I think MEP10 seemed to have that feature as well)? So then I will be looking for 'MEP2016' but how will I know if its version (15.0.0.114)? Thanks!

Jeff
Forum Moderator - I promised Peter I would never mention a different program that I use all the time. I am not 'WORRIED' about anything - As I've said repeatedly I enjoy Magix and have been editing for 20 years. I really appreciate the help. I don't edit well with aspects of a program that 'seem' to be floating online or that don't seem to be a solid intergral part of the software. And I don't care for the constant wait upon opening the software (even though a setting is supposed to grant you 30 days without updates)? I'd rather not use software that puts one in that position. And BTW I have a serious painful 24-7 Neurological disability. I'd just prefer to be the person who makes that choice to install an update or a fix. Thanks again for all your help ...😌

@CarpentersMate

You won't. What you get is the release version, which will be 15.0.0.something. Then either the program will propose an update to 15.0.0.114, which is the last patch, or you may have to click on Help, About, Update online. When the update screen pops up, you can check the list of patches, but you will only be offered the last one, as it covers the previous patches.

@browj2

Hi John

Thanks for trying to clarify what @CarpentersMate wants but I wonder if it is after his statement:- "And I don't care for the constant wait upon opening the software (even though a setting its supposed to grant you 30 days without updates)? I'd rather not use software that puts one in that position." as the prompt to update to a newer patch on start up is something that has been going on long before MEP2016. Whatever the main issue as I see it, is that he is more concerned to avoid the Update Service cycle that came in after MEP2017 and he is now happy.

BTW it is that service that overwrote MEP2017 with MEP2018 and may be why you can not find it.
