Check the audio tab in the render properties to make sure an audio codec is enabled.

I am also using MEP 18, and just tried to load in a video in .m2ts format. But when I do, I have no sound, even through the video plays just fine outside of MEP. I tried to follow the advice of Atom-jones, but am confused as to where the render properties and the audio tab inside of it are found. Can you give me specific directions on how to do this? It's very important. We just switched from importing .mp4 files ripped off a DVD to .m2ts files recorded on an SD drive. The process is so much cleaner and faster that we can't afford to take a step backwards. Thanks and God bless!
