MEP 18 Plus - Extra Cost for H264 Codec?

CarpentersMate wrote on 4/19/2019, 9:25 PM

Hi Gang

I just recieved MEP 18 Plus and will install it soon - I have Two Main Questions: I prefer to choose when updates are installed, with regard to the (Update Service). Is that an option? Let me be clear: I'd rather NOT have those updates installed automatically. Is that possible?

Also I noticed a tiny 'Asterisk' on the package box regarding the H264 Codec. Does this codec involve a Magix Aditional Fee? Or is that codec part of the basic package?

And lastly as this software is a (relatively new version) are there any reported bugs of fixes associated with MEP 18 Plus?

Thank You All ...๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hi

IIRC the h.264 codec is included with MEP, however, check the box to see if it says an activation fee is required or it requires online activation.

@CarpentersMate

You should be able to stop MEP from updating automatically as I updated my settings in MEP on install.

The Magix Connect Icon which should show up in the task bar on starting up the program is configurable.

Hi Cube - Thanx for the Screen Shot - Looks like my screen is slightly different? Check it out below ... When I got the Disc I just did a 'regular install' - I didn't see an option for 'customized' Install. There's a lot of stuff installed I have NO need for: the iCloud stuff, the Music Maker etc ...

I UNCHECKED Magix thru 'msconfig' (the Start Up Menu) but it keeps coming back ...... ๐Ÿ˜• I put a few screen shots up for ya ... Thanks for any help ๐Ÿ˜ฃ I'll deal with it .....

@CarpentersMate

I didn't buy the disc but did the download instead.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of different requirements to please not all the people not all of the time, so I guess these are options for those that do. At least when turned off they don't bother you again. At least I've not had that problem. I would say to leave the error reporting on in the event of a crash. It will help the developers to fix possible bugs as everyone's use of MEP may be different as will the systems it will be run on. Left on you will still get the option to send the information report or not.

I think, but I'm not sure, that some of Music Makers sound tools are made available to MEP and is configurable via going to File / Settings / Program / Folder, where you get options as to where to place projects, import material, and a choice of audio and still image editors that may already be on your system. For instance, Cubase is my audio editor and Photoshop my stills editor of choice although the example is an older screenshot.

There could be a lot of setting up to do to get things running the way you want and a good read of the manual and visits to the Magix videos are recommended. It took me months of fiddling to get my photo and audio programs to fit my needs and video was no exception for me. I think any powerful piece of software should have a high level of configure-ability.

So Far I have found MEP to be quite heavy in use of my processor core (I too am running an older i3) and had to fit an additional CPU heatsink to keep it from overheating. (If you get that problem I can recommend the CoolMaster Hyper H412R as up to doing the job). But memory wise it has not used that much on projects, typically around 4gig as an average. It's also quite slow at rendering for me and using internal high-speed drives help a bit but the big downside is that my systems CPU does not support the internal Intel rendering which speeds up rendering times quite a bit.

As for the last screen, it could be an additional program that came with the disc. I haven't seen that myself.

Possibly someone else may know more about it.
