MEP 2014 export settings for MP4

I'd appreciate some help with my export settings in MEP 2014 Premium Plus please.

I've just been trying to render a project in MEP 2014 and it consistently crashed. FWIW (not much I fear) I got these messages (same after reboot and restart):

The project rendered OK in MEP 2013 to an MP4, size 313 MB.

Naturally that prompted me to look at the settings in the respective versions. I've been using these in MEP 2013 for so long that I can no longer remember their history. They are shown as 'Used Defined' rather than the defaults for HDTV 1920x1080 PAL, so I can only assume I changed them at some time.

I then changed the 2014 settings to be identical to 2013, apart from the BR which I left at the default of 10000 instead of altering it to 6000.

That rendered OK to an MP4, size 529 MB (consistent with the higher BR).

The project itself is typical of mine, fairly complex with a variety of content: 12 MPx JPGs, 1920 x 1080 MOV video clips, FRAPS captures to AVI from Google Earth and Memory Map, etc.

So the questions on my mind are about the changes I've made, apparently successfully. Anyone know why they differ so much from the defaults? And why my changes work? And anyone (Peter?) recognise them as values they may have recommended to me at sometime? I'm pleased that they work, but I'd like to know why!

Do not if it is connected to your problem however in mine the Main Concept audio codec in MEP2014 is a newer version - 9.6.9.2473 vs 9.1.0.59454for MEP2013.

I have had no problems exporting mp4 using the default settings.

Sorry, but struggling to read the text in your last screen shot.

I have checked the default MPEG4 H264 templates / settings in 2013 and 2014 and they appear the same as your 2014. Your 2013 one looks like a YouTube export preset with the lower bitrate and 33frame long GOP which help to reduce bandwidth of the stream. No B frames though which help compress further so you could try with 2 Bfr. added, to reduce file size.

Not sure why one crashes and the other doesn't though. Will experiment further, but reasonably happy with the results I get from those settings - whatever their provenance!

I have been experimenting with Burning options and it crashed when trying to burn a DVD from HD material - a mix of AVCHD, MOV and JPG images - will look into this more when time allows.

Exporting mp4 is not an issue.

You can check your codecs either by using GSpot.

Or in MEP - for example mp4 export; in the export settings dialog click , Advanced, Advanced video or audio buttons (the audio may be greyed out). These open up another dialog where there is an About tab which gives you information about the codec.

I guess I misunderstood your earlier point about audio codecs. I thought you were saying MEP 2014 had installed a new one and I was wondering where to find that file.

You did not misunderstand what I posted - the audio codec part of the Main Concept codec package installed by MEP2014, is different to that of MEP 2013 - it is a later version by several updates looking at the version number jump - 9.1.0.59454 to 9.6.9.2473

Also I have finished the project which gave the initial crash and exported it 5 times to different filenames without a crash - so that may have been a one off.
