MEP 2014: Play/Stop from full screen failing erratically

terrypin wrote on 11/25/2013, 2:14 PM

So far I'm only seeing this annoying problem in 2014, not 2013. Difficult to say exactly what first causes it, but typically I'll be previewing in full screen mode (Alt+Enter). I use the Arrow Up and Arrow Down keys to start and pause play, all fine so far. Then I'll use Esc to return to the timeline and make an edit of some sort, usually a D or U. Or a T and then Ctrl+Del. Then I'll return to full screen previewing and (sometimes) the arrow keys will now no longer work. Worse, even back in normal preview mode they won't work after that failure. The only way I've found to recover is to restart MEP 2014.

Hi Terry

That's interesting. It may not be related but last night while working on a 30min project I found that playback stopped during playback a couple of times without my intervention. I was expecting a crash but none came. RAM use was up to about 2.3GB at the time and no CPU activity showing after the stop. Just restarted playback and all was well.

I will monitor it. BTW I have not applied the latest patch yet.

I'm getting this every few minutes now, out of the blue. In fact, this morning in a new session, after switching to full screen preview with Alt+Enter I can't get Arrow Up to start playback at all.

If I close 2014 and re-open the project in 2013, no problem.

This prompted me to look at the KB shortcut list under File > Setttings > Keyboard shortcut... which has jogged my memory: these two keys seem to be undocumented, as they are not in the list.

They are, of course, especially convenient and intuitive and after using them for many years (since MEP 11?) I'd be loathe to lose them. Are others using these? Or are you using the 'official' but slightly less convenient L and K keys instead?

Edit: Seems increasingly like a bug to me
After further tests it seems that this failure of the Arrow Up and Arrow Down keys only occurs if one of the 'size' effects under Effects > Movement effects is in use. Namely Size/Position, Section and Camera/zoom. They work OK if you've selected any of the other categories. And I don't even need to have a target object selected for the problem to occur.

Can anyone reproduce please?

Confirmed by Magix as a bug.

My suggested work arounds are:

1. Get out of the habit of using the arrow up/down keys and instead use K and L, the documented KB shortcuts.

2. Switch to say the Title tab (or a section of Movement that doesn' t cause the failure) before using Alt+Enter.

HI Terry

I never used the Up / Down arrows for playing the timeline

My most used keyboard shortcuts are:

Stop / start play                               Space bar

Move left / right through object          Left / right arrow

Editing                                              As yours except I have a different key map (Z, U , T and Ctrl Del)

Deleting a range                                 I / O  then Alt + Del

Mouse mode                                       6 for single, 7 for multiple objects

Object trimmer                                    N  (remapped from original Shift + N)

John
