MEP 2016 Copying Attributes To Other Clips?

CarpentersMate wrote on 2/4/2023, 9:29 PM

Hi Gang

MEP 2016 Plus (or) later versions of MEP: Sorry if this question/issue has already been addressed, (although I couldn't find any info). With regard to Video or Audio, is it possible to copy clip attributes and apply/paste them to other clips? EQ, Contrast, Sharpness etc?

Thank You

Hi,

Shortcuts to copy " - " that is the minus key. Select effects from the list.

Paste " Shift+- " that is Shift minus key.

You can find these in the right-click options.

Hi Mike.

Just one question out of curiosity.

Why the need to do this for your example? You could in this instance just right click the audio file and copy and paste the setting to the other clips involved or you could have set the audio settings before splitting then up (assuming it was one edited clip.) To have so many presets in a folder, especially for audio or even colour correction would eventually lead to so many additions it would become hard to keep track of them with any real form of recollection as to how each sounded or looked.

Hi Mike,

I don't understand why you have a Windows Explorer window open. You did not say that you want to save the effect, which is something different.

In your image of the EQ, you first have to apply it to the clip. Then, with the clip selected, hit the minus key and you get a selection box. The EQ will be there. Continue. The effect is now in the clipboard. Select another clip, Shift+minus and the effect is pasted.

No please ignor that (it was a screen capture image), and landed on the desktop ....

"why do you have a Windows Explorer window open"

I did not open that window - it poped up - please ignor that

In reply to John CB

"The EQ will be there continue"

The prompt appears 'apply to all clips'

Please excuse my error ..... This was an interview with varied topics and became an issue because I failed to selectively capture only necessary video into separate captures. Thus I had to split/divide/label only the pertinent clips on the same timeline as shown here and make EQ adjustments:

There's no need to use audio presets in this project, just manual EQ. I've had difficulty opening one project file, (while at the same time), copying selected pieces to another project. If preferred, I can post a new topic about that?

Thank you both John's and Ray 🙂

Hi Mike.

The mixer could have been used instead for the audio on that track.

Other clips can be on other tracks with their own EQ in the mixer. The amount of tracks in use in a project won't effect how well the program responds. It only slows the program down when multiple tracks have to play at the same time.

Hi Ray

"Other clips can be on other tracks"

Yes of course 🙂

Again the issue was that I should have separeted captures according to topics (I usually do), and just drag each clip into the main project timeline.

"The mixer could have been used"

Did you mean editing the audio externally as a wav? The audio screen shot above (and its options) is what comes up when you click on the audio.

I wanted to thank John CB for the audio reminders. A handy option is when 'Applied to all' can be used, (no matter how many times) changes are made.

Hi Mike.

I meant alter the EQ in with the program mixer for that one track.

Don't worry about the delays you see in pushing the mute and solo buttons. It only effects the program when you use the effects in real time playback which is still very annoying but is fine and in sync once applied if needed.

For some time, (since I rarely use audio presets or audio FX), I've been using the equalizer where I have pretty good control of individual frequencies. However I do remember seeing the 'Mixer' option in other versions of MEP.

Out of curiosity, I can't seem to find it at all, (have looked everywhere). Are you sure its available wit MEP 2016?

Thanx

Hi Mike.

Both multi-band graphic equalizer volume controls are found at the same frequencies. You are probably swapping ears or brain when comparing. I will run an oscilloscope frequency sweep it you wish and see if there is a difference but my guess is that possibly the same amount of volume travel in both equalizers may not give exactly the same amount of boost or cut if there is a difference.

Does this mean you have never set the limiter in any of your projects?

They are the same tool/effect - just a different route to acess it and in its scope ie using the mixer applies the effect to the whole track if you use a track control, or the whole project if using the master controls.

Object based adjustments must be done on the individual objects.

I forgot to ask about copying audio properties from one clip, then pasting them (selectively), to several clips, (the same interview), to downstream audio clips. I was able to accomplish this easily (with another App), by simply COPYING the properties from one upstream audio clip, then simply highlighting the 'matching selective audio clips' from the same interview downstream, and press COPY 'Clip Properties'

And 'Wa La' 😎
