MEP 2016: Monitor zoom bug?

terrypin wrote on 8/24/2017, 6:59 AM

It's rare, but occasionally I want to use the 400% option to zoom the preview monitor view. But, unlike all the other settings, it does not remain centred. It jumps to the south east, so typically the object you are editing disappears.

Haven't tried it in MEPP 2017 - seem to have spent most of the morning testing glitches!

No one able to confirm this please?

Hi Terry,

I didn't try in MEP2016 but I did in VPX and it jumps as you say. As far as I can tell, the centre of the image goes to the upper left corner, thus you see south-east, as you say.

First image is my test target rectangle, 1920x1080 with vertical and horizontal lines through the middle, and a circle centred on centre of rectangle.

Second image is Preview monitor at 400%, so you can see what happens.

Strange that, as 150% and 200% keep the centre centred. If you zoom to 200% and then use Ctrl+mouse wheel to zoom in, the centre says centred.

Hi John,

Thanks for the confirmation. Plainly an odd bug. Pity, as it makes that high magnification zoom useless.

John CB confirmed this bug (IMO) and I sent a ticketed report referencing this thread. I found the same problem in both MEPP 2016 15.0.0.114 (UDP3) AND MEPP ('2017') 16.0.4.119 (UDP3).

I'm frustrated that Magix Support cannot reproduce it, despite my subsequent attempts and the clear screenshot John provided. I think it's trivially easy to demonstrate and today sent one last attempt to show Magix how to do so. It uses any image or video with central content for viewing/editing.

If anyone else could find less than a minute to reproduce it, and report so here, perhaps it will help to get it on the list for fixing sometime.

Hi Terry,

We need someone else. I tested it on the latest VPX patch 15.0.4.176 and I get the almost the same result. The centre point goes to the upper left corner with 400%.

Here is a video showing this. I will raise a ticket with Magix and send the video.

Thanks John. The work-around is simple, of course. But I expect the fix is too! 🙂

After taking the trouble to document bugs it bothers me that little effort appears to be made in pursuing many of them.

If you monitor my problems with VPX and the latest patch, you will see that some problems get resolved, but other things don't, and that in fixing one thing, something else gets broken. Too much time is being spent on getting this program to work. I hope that when I get home, the update to the latest patch at least gets VPX on my desktop computer workable. When I left, it was basically unusable as all video clips were black unless I put an HDR gamma on all clips.

I am raising the ticket but including a few other things about VPX. My experience has been that Magix looks at one or two and ignores others. I will let you know the reply.

Hi

Confirmed - at 400% see south-east corner.

However you can drag the image around with Ctrl + drag in the preview monitor.

Thanks John, that's an even easier work-around I hadn't seen. Still like to see Magix at least recognise the bug though!
