MEP clip thumbnail errors

terrypin wrote on 3/7/2014, 2:21 AM

This should be self-explanatory. It's as if MEP scrambles its information about the clip thumbnails. Once it happens, my tests appear to show that it's permanent. IOW, re-opening the project (in MEP 2014 or 2013, and probably all other versions) doesn't fix it.

Not reproducible to order, of course, but I get the problem frequently. Anyone else ever see this?

Hi Terry

. . . . Once it happens, my tests appear to show that it's permanent . . . .

Is it permanent if you delete the .HDP files in the project?

So far I have not seen this happening in MEP 2014 and definitely not had it in previous versions.

John

Hi John,

Restarted that particular oroject but next time it happens I'll test that.

Meanwhile, in case this is down to my misunderstanding, can you tell
me if I'm right in assuming that the thumbnail at the left of the clip
should be identical to the first frame of the clip?

Hi Terry,

I'm not quite sure what you mean. If I understand correctly, the image icon/thumbnail of a clip in the media pool is not the same as the first frame of the clip. Is this what you mean?

Remember quite a while back we looked at this as I believe that you or someone had a problem with the thumbnails being black because the video was shot in fade-in mode or something. We found a program to adjust the frame selected to be shown as the thumbnail of the clip. I didn't have this problem since I don't use fade-in on the camera, and the image shown is not the first frame anyways.

Or are you talking about the thumbnail of the mvp file. If the video starts with a fade-in, then the thumbnail could be black. Press E for the project parameters, Project Settings, and you will see that the preview image is automatically selected. You can change this as the third option by using the slider under Preview to Use preview image from movie. I don't know how Magix automatically selects the preview image, but it may not be the first frame of the clip by design.

Or, something else? Looking at your images, the image in the preview monitor looks like a video with the cursor partially along the track. Or is it really an image? On Track 1, I see a jpeg, not a video clip. Maybe you can explain a little better?

Regards,

Hi John,

You're right, I wasn't as clear as I should have been.

I tend to use 'clip' to mean 'object on the timeline'. In my screenshot it's an image. (With no fade.)

I couldn't see why its thumbnail differed from the preview monitor. But although I can no longer check back (I reworked the project), I now reckon I know the answer, and it's down to me.

I thought I was viewing a photo with no effects applied but I'm now almost certain it had a zoom out. The marker must have been at or near the end of the object. Otherwise, as you spotted, the cursor should have been visible in the screenshot, right at the start.
