MEP2013 Plus - Adding Your Own OGG File For Menu

Hi Gang

I tried to find relevant data using 'Search' - I converted a brief wav file to an 'OGG Vorbis Audio' file using Audacity. Can you guys tell me if I'm able to use that same file for a menu tune? If so should I deposit/place/paste that file in any particular directory? Or is this not possible? Thank You 😗

Hi

Assuming you mean a background audio for the menu - use this option in the Menu Edit dialog to change the background audio and insert a background video clip instead of an image.

This image is from MEP 2021, however the options are also there in your MEP.

BTW there is no need to convert audio files to OGG - MEP will accept a wide range of audio files and video files for the DVD menu

Hi John - Nice to see you again - actually I'm customizing (both) audio and still image in the background Menu. The still image (a saved jpg. worked out great)! Thanx for your help with that. Ok so then audio can be a wav file (no need to convert to OGG). Got That too (thank you) .... Question is does the wav file have to placed into a 'Magix App Directory' folder or can I simply navigate (as in your screen shot) to where I have that wav stored? And to re-clarify, can I have all my media saved to externals? Or do they have to be saved to the main OS Drive?

Hi.

I make my own music and export as either 24 bit wav or 32 bit float wav and I can import any of them into projects. The main thing with wav is either keep the files to either 48kHz (preferable) or 44kHz.

MEP would see the following file info.

Yes there is no problem with that.

This is where you will get different opinions - I say they should be on an internal drive in a folder within the Documents folder for best performance, others members say it is OK to use external drives. With your source material, working with USB drives should be OK as the data transfer requirements are not as high as higher resolution video.

Hi John - And thanx for your patience my dear friend! Externals? (I'm sure this has been discussed before) .. To be clear I always use 'esata' PCI cards in my machines, (both Mac and Windows). Then use esata cables from those rear ports to an externally powered esata enclosure. The transfer speeds are decent. In any event having fun here during pandemic blues ... 🤓 😷

Hi.

I agree with John.

External drives are fine for archiving but I would have library files on one of my three additional internal drives.

It's why I like tower cased PCs. I could fit 10 SATA drives or more SSDs in my case and an underused 1200w power supply.

I added the file info because some have never tried 32 bit floating point wav files. I could make 64 bit but I seriously don't think I'd hear the difference.

It is not very often to come across some one using eSATA external drives - eSATA connection has the same transfer data rates as the internal SATA drives so absolutely no worries there.

All my towers are configured the same way, (Mac & PC's). It might be older technology (not as fast as thunderbolt), but heck I'll take it ... 😆 I'm not sure Ray picked up on that but with his knowledge/experience, I believe he knows what we're referring to 🤓 Hey we're a TEAM here - a Magix Team! 😍
