Hi Ray - How ya doin?

If I try to bring up the actual DB level by depressing on 'Left Click Mouse' you cannot see the DB number indicating the current DB level. Is this because that was a feature of MEP2016 Plus (but not MEP2013 Plus)?

Hi.

I've only been with MEP since the 2018 version and I've never seen that on any update. It's not mentioned in the manual. Do you have an old manual?

I visited the link to the website. Very impressive and sensitive to the subject.

My father was 14 and crew on board a sea going tug at Dunkirk. Later he was in the North Atlantic based around Reykjavík. He was on shore leave when his first crew was lost presumed torpedoed (I later found out it wasn't but was lost in a storm) with all crew. He was then put into a new crew that survived the rest of the war. He never talked about the rest of his time during the war past the Dunkirk experience. I think it's important to record such things. You should put your work on more platforms. They deserve to bee seen.

Hi Ray - Thanx for the complement.

I'll look for the manual but not sure about a fix for this? Do you know if the other versions work the same way with regard to the dB levels? Even if I manipulate the levels manually I still can't see the DB values in numbers? I wonder if the application got currupted somehow?

PS: Sorry to hear you weren't able to get the whole story about your Dad. That's quite amazing about him being 14 years old! BTW - I've been working on this project for over 10 years trying to get back to editing. Its been difficult being disabled.

All versions from MEP 2015 (the earliest version I have installed) to date have this feature, IIRC the dB level was introduced with MEP 2014 or 2015 (I do stand to be corrected on this).

Oddly enough there is no mention of this feature in any of the MEP manuals from MEP 14 through to MEP 2021.

Hi John - Nice to see you - I have 3 different versions: MEP 2016 Plus, MEP2013 Plus and and an earlier version (before 2013). All except MEP2013 Plus provided a numeric DB value to appear when you 'Left Click' on the level icon within the sound file. Just can't seem to find an option to bring that back in MEP2013? Hi. Yes.

The increasing of the school leaving age to fifteen was halted by the second world war and my father went straight into working on the Thames tugs as it was a reserved occupation. Based on the Thames I think he never thought he would be at sea let alone the North Atlantic or the other side of the channel. I know these types of projects take a lot of effort. I wish you luck.

Is it still in MEP? How to activate it? Or do you mean the option that alters the level slider in the mixer. I'm not aware of anything that reads the actual volume of a sound file.

How about using the Mixer meters - they are much larger.

An alternative would be to install the Youlean Loudness Monitor - MEP can use it as a plugin to monitor loudness.

It is a little different in that it provides a loudness chart as the audio plays and the units are LUFS not dB however a change of 1 LUF is the same as 1 dB. LUFS are encompassed in EBU R128 TV and radio standard for measuring loudness. When you limit or normalise two different audio files to the same LUF value they will be the same loudness, unlike using standard VU meters (analog or digital) measuring in dB.

That is the volume slider position, not a reading of the volume of the audio clip. That is still there in the new versions.

In practice that means any clip could be louder or softer than a corresponding audio file set to the same volume slider position if the recording itself is softer.

As John said you can use the mixer to see the relative volume of each track. The highest volume stays at its position in the meter unless you click on the meter itself which resets it.

You can see from the waveform in the audio track it is not reaching peak.

Ray - "That is the volume slider position" All well and good (thank you) but why can't the 'the volume slider position' function/work/appear in MEP2016? (as shown in the screen shots)? That's always been my question ... The mixer isn't practical for me when you have 10-20 individual sound effects files in one project. I prefer the numbers from the 'the volume slider' as a quick reference guide where things are in relation to each other in the mix. Does the 'the volume slider' function in MEP2013? Maybe it doesn't?

No idea as I don't have MEP going that far back, but the numbers at the base of each slider in the mixer would show the same numbers and the track number. Maybe not ideal but should be there.

The numbers only appear on the track if you click on the two small arrows in the middle of the line in the newer versions. Maybe that changed?

Hello again John - my apologies I was using the incorrect protocol posting links, (as in the posts above). Anyway this image explains the situation quite well. What you see here is MEP2016 Plus where the level slider position works (as it should), showing numeric values. However in MEP 2013 Plus, the 'Left Click' will only allow level manipulation up and down but will NOT indicate (numeric values). Other than that MEP 2013 Plus appears stable and I like the larger frame size on the timeline and the instant older audio interface. Those slider position numeric values were extremely practical when building a 'sound stage' with dozens of sound effects. MEP 2013 Plus may have lost that capability/function possibly because of application corruption?

Have you tried running the program in compatibility mode and selecting Windows 8.1 or Win 7?
