Metedata foloder on Desktop

rickduley wrote on 1/3/2022, 11:52 PM

My machine is Intel QuadCore i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 32 GB RAM, running MS Windows 10 Home v. 1803, build 17134.228 on an MSI B75MA-P45 motherboard with a SAMSUNG SSD main drive.
It has RealTek High Definition Audio and a SAMSUNG U28D590D VDU driven by an NVIDIA QUADRO K620 Video Card.  There is a Logitech C930 webcam and I have Windows Defender as Anti-virus with Firefox and Skype running in the background.

When I run Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus (19.0.1.31) it creates a folder on my Desktop named '.metadata'. This folder contains this image

If I delete the folder it is recreated next time I run MEP.

There must be some setting in MEP I have incorrect. Can someone please sort this out for me.

Thanks

Hi rick.

That is the icon used for launching the application from the desktop.

I can't remember if the setup program gives you the option of creating the desktop icon or not as I always use desktop icons.

@CubeAce I don't i use desktop icons, once a program has installed i delete that on screen icon, i pin my apps to the taskbar at the bottom, I've never had to delete it again after that initial install & i can't find a setting that allows you to recreate it 🤷‍♂️

@CubeAce Yep that works, I've 8-9 shortcuts on my screen for folders i use regularly, 1 Text document i use as a temp notepad & the recycle bin, I don't like too much crap on screen 😁

This is both my screens

This shortcut says nothing about metadata?, I've deleted it now 🙋‍♂️

@Former user @rickduley

Hi Gid. It should show on a file search of the C: drive rather than a folder search.

The file could be being recreated because it was chosen to be there when the program was installed but can't verify as I can't remember if I chose that option or whether I created my own.

Also I never had MEP 2019. I skipped from 2018 to 2020 so there may be some deviation there I'm not aware of.

If the file on the desktop is not an application launch icon I can't explain its appearance.

Ray.

@CubeAce Like i say i either tell the installation not to create a desktop icon or i delete immediately 🤷‍♂️ I just went through all Magix folders, couldn't find anything & searched (C) drive for metadata, most results were Microsoft, none seemed to be related to Magix, I dunno 🤷‍♂️

Hi

. . . . When I run Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus (19.0.1.31) it creates a folder on my Desktop named '.metadata'. This folder contains this image . . . .

This is not a desktop shortcut - a desktop shortcut is a .lnk file.

The folder appears to be where the metadata for files used in a project is stored and should not be on the desktop.

Rick

Can you post a screenshot of the Program settings, Folders tab.

Are your projects stored on the desktop?

Hi Rick

In addition to Eric's ( @ericlnz ) comment, have you moved the default Documents folder from the C: drive to D: and is the program installed on the C: or D: drive?

Yes. When I purchased the PC I set up the default Desktop folder in D:\.

Programs are installed in C:\.

It has been so for six years (or more, I can't remember exactly when I bought the PC).

Hi Rick

Thanks for confirming that - did you try changing the option Eric picked up on - by default the location should be

Documents\MAGIX\Export

I changed the 'Export' address to 'D:\Documents\MAGIX Export' and now new '.metadata' folder is created.

Curiously, the system did not permit the creation of a 'Documents\MAGIX\Export' folder. I have never seen that before.

Thanks John

My (currently working) work-through was to leave the '.metadata' folder on my Desktop but Hide it. It really is a jury rig but it is working and it should be harmless. 😁
