Missing Files and Website Run-Around

rob-EDKW wrote on 7/4/2012, 3:40 PM

I have Music Maker MX, which was purchased from Magix online on March 2, 2012.  I registered the product the same day and it worked fine.  Today, however, I tried to create some new music and found that about 90% of all instruments are not found.  Tried to sort this out with Magix via the website, but am told I have no products registered.  When I try to re-register Music Maker MX, the website tells me the product already is registered.  What gives?

As you have recently purchased therefore, you can contact Magix support without buying any coupon (I guess).

In the message mention your purchase details, your problem and use the same e-mail you used for product registration.

If you have already done that ask once again.

Or first try to clear internet browser history and cookies, re-install your software.

**during re-installation don't you see any option product already registered?

Be aware you are allowed only three installs of the software before you will have to contact MAGIX, hope they respond, and beg them to allow you to load it again.  Reloading the software should be considerd the last resort.

Before reloading the software, you might want to give the .INI fix a try...

"With MMM not running, use Windows Explorer to search for "musicmaker.ini" and delete the largest one you find - it will be 14kb or more in size. Then start MMM.

When you search, ensure you search hidden files and folders depending on the version of windows you have: the setting will be different as will the locaton of the .ini file."

Thanks for the suggestions.  I couldn't find "musicmaker.ini."  A major problem is that there's no way for me to contact Magix via email if I don't have (according to the website) a registered product, even though I have an account.  So I suppose I could purchase a coupon but at this point I'm beginning to think it's not worth the effort.  Again, thanks for the suggestions.

Hi

Try emailing  sales at magix.com  (replace the at with @)

The musicmaker.ini file is a hidden file - you will have to set Windows Explorer to view hidden files before it will appear.

As you do not give us any information about your computer and OS the option location depends on the version of windows you have.

If you still want to know about Music Maker ini file. Here are some steps.

My system is in Japanese and I am using MMM 16 Premium, OS is windows vista home premium.

Go to C: drive where normally Program files etc are saved.

Click on ALT key or F10 key to view hidden tabs

File/Eidit/View/Tools/Help(if you do not need then go to next step)

Click on TOOLS
Folder Options
Click Show or View(whatever proper English is)
Scroll down and locate
Show File and Folder
Click on radio button(round)which says, Show all files and folder
Now you can see hidden files. (You must hide the files once work is done)
Click on Program Data or Application Data
Click on Magix folder
Click on Musick Maker MX
Click on User Data

You will find files like these

The marked file is music maker ini file. If you right click and choose Property you can see the name of file with ini extension.

From here you are at your own. Do as you like. Remember do not delete anything unless you know what you are doing. If you are not sure better keep backup then delete.

Hi

Unfortunately for Windows 7 (and I think Vista - @ Nihon69 can you confirm this please)  the ini file is in one of three locations and have different file sizes.

The locations I have are:

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Music_Maker_MX_Premium       size: 1kb

C:\Users\All Users\MAGIX\Music_Maker_MX_Premium       size: 1kb

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Music_Maker_MX_Premium       size: 32kb (see below)

where XXXX the name of the user or is 'Default'

Wherever you find them it is the largest one that you need to delete.

TAke a screen copy of your registered product from the Magix site and email to them as proof you are the owner of th product.  Have you tried the Repair trick when you log on to do a delete programs from y0ur Control panel.  That may restore everything.  For myself , I put all my styles and soundpool information into a sseparate folder and have even done a USB backup.  I've paid for all of this stuff and at times it just goes goofy and my backups have saved me many a frustration
