Hi Folks, i am looking at some of the tutorials online, and they all seem to have more transitions than i have, can anyone explain why or also experienced this? new to MEP so any help be much appricated, thanks.
First can you please check and tell us exactly which version of MEP you have (check under Help>About..) and which variant (Basic, Plus or Premium)?
Have you actually bought the product or are you running the trial version? If you have bought the app, have you registered it by entering the supplied serial number? If you have registered it, have you checked under Help>Download additional content for all the transitions and other features that will then become available to download and install for whichever variant you have?
If you have done all the above and still feel there are features missing, please read this post and come back with all the details requested there.
I’m using MOVIE EDIT PRO PREMIUM and yes it is registered.
Version 19.0.2.58 (UDP3) UG CODE 8445KA2
It was purchased by our IT department and installed by them, I tried the download store content and nothing happens, install extra content only offers me the option to install codec? Thanks for help Jeff.
Nothing supposed to "happen." You are supposed to see the second screen with the list. Do you at least see the second screen? Does it look like Jeff's screen? If not, then post a screen shot.
You should have the following main titles, each with many transitions except for Additional fades.
This beginning to sound like the version installed is the Basic version which has a total of 163 transitions whereas the Plus and Premium versions have 175.
With MEP running, what is the program name as seen in the top bar of the program window, you should also see the same name in the splash screen when starting MEP?
In the meantime, I wouldn't worry much about the missing transitions, you likely won't need or use them, and you have plenty to play with. As per the manual, transitions should not extensively. When you need one, a simple cross-fade is usually enough. Overuse of transitions can detract from the visual quality - the transition should enhance or draw attention to a scene change for a reason, not just because it's a fancy transition.
Since you're new to MEP, I suggest that you watch my tutorials on basic editing and then practice. Read the Quick Start chapter in the manual. Learning the basics will save you a lot of time and headache. Do not start with a big project, do small test projects just to play around and learn. Go through the entire routine of importing, moving objects, trimming, transitions, titling, adding narration and music, adjusting audio, adjusting colour and brightness, and exporting. I have hundreds of test projects, many just to learn how to do certain things.
Hi John CB, ah your presuming im new to editing :-) in fact i also have sony vegas and have been using it for 10 years so know quiet a bit about editing, and know the best effects are used sparingly, but i would like what we paid for, also my concern is, is there anything else missing??? i also look forward to your tutorials.
Since it was a download, something is wrong and you should get the material to be downloaded. It looks like you have all of the Titles, which means that at some point the download of additional material worked. I am puzzled.
I was going by your first statement, new to MEP as probably being new or fairly new to editing.
In any event, take a look at my tutorials as editing in MEP is different from editing in Vegas w.r.t. the tools and where they are. Also, the track protocol for MEP is very different from Vegas. Track 1 is the bottom of the stack. You keep the background there. Anything that should be on top of it goes on higher numbered tracks. Thus your background video would be on track 1, title on track 3, for example. No need to insert tracks to put something on top of something else; just use a higher track number. No need for your background video or image to move to another track. So, the protocol is like putting cards down, 1 on the bottom, 2 goes on top, 3 goes on top of that, etc.
Also, a track is a track. There are no composite tracks, video tracks, audio tracks. Of course, it's not a good idea to mix audio with video/images on the same track.
There is no bin. You can drag material onto the timeline from Windows Explorer. Import in the Media Pool is live - just a version of WE, so do not delete anything as it will be deleted from your hard drive. Imported material will show up under Import with a red dot if the folder is showing. You can create links to folders under Import, making it very convenient to navigate to the folders containing your project material.
. . . . Since it was a download, something is wrong and you should get the material to be downloaded. . . . .
I have to agree with @browj2, there is definitely something wrong, and my inclination would be to say that not all the effects etc have actually been downloaded and/or installed.
If the downloaded extras were left on the computer locate the Magix Downloads folder, inside there you should see all the extra content installers, there are 11 of those and the Travel Maps installer if you have it, as shown below check that you have all those listed in the image below, also check the Installationsmanager folder.
These can be manually installed by running each one - if the extras for that download are installed the installer will ask if you want to remove them - cancel the install.
Thank you for feedback and help gents much appricated, can i reinstall the same software on my home PC (is there a licence issue?) if not maybe i can see if it installs fully?
If the original program was installed by your IT department then they have the registration and activation details that would be needed for a full instillation of the full working program. Without it you would be effectively running a limited functioning demo version.
You can have MEP activated on two computers at the same time. Any more and you have to deactivate one through the program or through the on-line account, then activate the third, etc.
Did you find any of the files indicated by John EB? If you install MEP on another computer, remember to check that you want to keep the installation during the install process.
I've just downloaded a Humble Bundle version of VPX and the interesting thing is I have exactly the same transition effects missing in that download as you have missing in your version of MEP.
I'm wondering if your IT department found a similar package of MEP somewhere on the web. Cheap but without all the normal amount of plug-ins or third party effects.
