Monitor assignments for multi-screen

mojoaudioguru wrote on 9/9/2020, 5:29 PM

I pressed the wrong button, which I have no clue what it was, in MEP 2021+. And now, instead of the multi screen video being on monitor 2, which is on the left of my main monitor 1, it is now on monitor 3. Which is mounted up and above my monitor 1, 48" editing screen. I had the multi-screen video monitor on monitor 2, which is a 26" screen, specifically for the MEP+ software, when editing in multi-screen mode. However, it is now on monitor 3, which is a 20" screen. Because of where it's mounted, and it's size, that position does not work for me. How can I get my number 2 monitor to show the video preview window, again. I've tried to drag it from monitors 1 and 3 to #2, but it won't allow being dragged. No matter what I push or read in the HELP file, I cannot figure out how to return the video preview to the number 2 monitor. Anyone encounter this issue? I've never had this problem with any of the previous MEP+ versions, (Since it was Video Deluxe, 1999 version), in 20+ years. I tried reassigning the monitors in Windows 10 Pro, and swapping the HDMI cables, but the results were disastrous. In short, I need the editing preview video monitor from the software, back onto my number 2 monitor, were it's been since MEP first began the multi-monitor feature. My set-up is a custom built, Windows 10 Pro OS, with an Intel i7 7700k, overclocked to 4.7gig, with an NVidia GTX 1050Ti SC, (4 gig of DDR5), and 16 gig of DDR4 RAM in a 2 TB SSD config. The Intel® HD Graphics 630 has 1 gig of RAM. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

I presume that you didn't save the Window Arrangement, correct? More on this later.

Did you try from the top menu, Window, Window Arrangement, Multi-monitor with Maximized Arranger?

I only have 2 monitors, but from what I recall, with more monitors it might get a little bit complicated - nothing to do with MEP.

Try dragging the window in the blank area at the top of the window to the right, meaning to get from monitor 3 to monitor 2 you might have to drag to the right - to monitor 1 then to monitor 2 (clockwise, not counter-clockwise).

If that doesn't work, start again. Press F9 to reset everything. Now rearrange your windows onto the correct monitors, resize, etc. When happy, go to the top menu, Window, Window Arrangement, Save. Give this a name. It will now be accessible using F10.

Alright, I'll give it a try. But, I've never had to save the window arrangements with any previous version of MEP+. It just automatically did it, when I pressed / ticked the 'multi-monitor arranger.' What could I have pressed that changed it? Monitor #3 isn't utilized at all, when using MEP+. I have it solely for monitoring online security cameras for my compound. (And, in order to get the Intel 630 GPU to enable the Quicksync feature, in order to render 2K & 4K videos faster. Since the days of CUDA are long gone) Thank you. It worked. To your knowledge, is what I accidentally pressed something new to MEP 2021+? Because I have been using every version of MEP since it debuted, and when it was Video Deluxe, prior to that, here in the states.

@mojoaudioguru

It could be MEP, a Windows update, you, or something else. Who knows? Sometimes, not all of the settings are properly kept from one revision to the next.

As for saving the Windows arrangement, you can have more than one. The default is F9, the first is F10, second F11, then F12. Each is given a name by you. I have several, but I use VPX so it's a bit more complex. This way I can quickly switch the arrangements.

Stay safe,

Hi

To add to @browj2's comment -

MEP 2021 has 2 preset window arrangements Standard (default) and Multi monitor with maximised arranger - neither has a Function key associated with them, once you have selected which one you want to use MEP remembers it.

The extra option you see related to the F10 key above is my custom arrangement.

To create the custom arrangement drag the whole program interface to the monitor you require it to be on then drag the required panes to the other monitor(s) and size as required - save the arrangement if this is the first custom arrangement this will become you F10 key.

Should you want to revert to the Standard layout press F9 the reset layout option.

Thank you all, gentlemen. I've since gone ahead and corrected it. I just can't figure out what it was that I did, to have the video pane jump up to the 3rd monitor in my system. In any case, I have created my own arrangement and am very happy with the results. Your assistance in this matter was very well appreciated. Thank you all, once again.
