I upgraded MEP Premium (2021). I am able to open the projects I was working on before the upgrade, but now nothing shows in the monitor. Tried everything I could think of - what am I missing?
No - still a blank screen. If I try to do anything with the object (as in this case resize), I get all these crazy distortions that don't go away. Otherwise, everything else seems to be fine. Thanks.
Under Display Options, I switched to Compatibility Mode, and now I'm getting everything on my screen. Previously it was Standard Mode, and my graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GT 740. Is there a problem with the graphics card? What's the downside of Compatibility Mode? Sorry - I'm not very tech savvy. Thanks for any help. HD
The source of my material is in a project folder under D/My Videos. In my projects, I have mixed JPEG and MPEG files that I am using (maybe a couple MP4s as well). Now under compatibility mode everything "seems" fine - I'm just wondering why things would have changed, and if there is a downside. Yes - my photos display fine in Windows Photo viewer, my photo editors, etc. Confused lol. Thanks.
Sorry John, misunderstood you: Most of the images are scanned, then edited in Paintshop Pro (my photo editor). Some images are downloaded, but then edited as above if needed. All videos were downloaded (few). The D:drive is internal - I had a solid state drive installed. Hope that makes sense. Thank you.
my graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GT 740. Is there a problem with the graphics card?
Maybe. Is it an older card and what type of memory and how much does it have? There is a GT740 that has 2GB of GDDR5 memory, but also one that only has GDDR3 memory with a much more limited memory bandwidth.
The latest MEP with the Infusion engine 2 uses the video memory in a different more intensive way which could be causing you problems. Also although Magix state that the new engine works with AMD or Nvidia cards with a minimum of 1GB of Video memory even 2 GB might be a bit light!
I see after searching through your previous forum posts that you originally had an i3 Intel which may have an integrated GPU, but depending on the generation of that i3 and the specification of its' iGPU it could be helping or hindering, so please put as much information as you can find about the hardware components of your PC in your forum signature.
What do you have selected in "Program Settings>Display>Video mode for play back in the arranger" When standard mode is selected which GPU is showing below - the Nvidia or the Intel GPU?
Are drivers for both GPU's up to date (NB Don't rely on Windows Update to do this for you).
There was an EVGA GT 740 Superclocked 4 GB DDR3, (Actually a lot of variants on this GPU core) but I agree, the cards architecture may not support enough Direct X 12 requirements to work efficiently with the new Infusion Engine. The same goes for the Intel HD graphics 520 or older inboard GPUs.
Thanks Peter. Sorry I didn't include my system information.
I'm working with an older desktop: Acer Aspire M3970, Intel (R) Core (TM) i3-2120 CPU, 3.30 GHz, RAM 6 GB, Windows 7 64-bit
The GeForce card GT-740, driver version 446.14 standard, total available graphics 6902 MB, dedicated video memory 4096 MB GDDR5.
As mentioned, I changed the Program Settings>Display>Video from Standard Mode to Compatibility Mode, as it's the only way that the preview screen will display my project. Prior to the update, I had used Standard Mode.
I haven't updated any drivers - as you mentioned, I assumed that Windows Update was doing this - glad you pointed this out. Hope the above makes more sense to you than it does to me. I have had very little problems working with and/or updating Magix in the past, so I'm wondering what the culprit is this time around. Thanks for your help.
MEP no longer supports Sandy Bridge GPUs as far as I'm aware and hasn't done so for some time.
I think your driver for your Intel GPU may be some versions behind if still supported. (I think it should be). Best to check on the nvidia site. The best way to keep most drivers updated it to upload the Intel Driver support tool on the Intel website. That may get your preview display working again on playback.
I updated the NVIDIA driver, but it has no affect. I also downloaded the Intel Driver support tool - downloaded the update - but when I tried to install, it came back that my system does not meet the minimum requirements. So I guess I'm stuck (or need a better machine).
As mentioned, I seem to be functioning in Compatibility Mode, but some features - like the 3D transitions - do not function. Frustrating because I used a few of these on my current project.
Thanks all for the support - I'll keep digging - see what I come up with. Now I wish I could go back to MEP before I upgraded.
Thanks Ray. I upgraded from 2020 to 2021. I'll look into reinstalling 2020 if possible. For my purposes, the 2021 upgrade didn't seem to offer much anyway. I'm assuming (?) that this would not affect any of the projects I'm in the middle of.
In theory a driver update should either not be noticeable or an improvement.
Never can say for sure but I've not noticed problems with previous driver updates.
There should be no real problems with going back a version either but check how to completely remove all parts of your present instal first. I've copied John Baker into this reply so he sees it.
He knows best about how to uninstal MEP better than I do for this.
. . . .I've copied John Baker into this reply so he sees it . . .
I did not get any notification 🙁 - you have fallen into the same trap as I have several times today - the second @User is a repeat of the first. This normally happens if you decide to go back after typing the text and add another user. The only way I have found out of this is to delete the entire line and add both users one after the other with a comma and space between (hope that makes sense).
The easier way to get a clean uninstall of MEP 2021 use Revo Uninstaller (free). This is used to launch the uninstaller from within Revo, it wiil ask if you want to create a registry back - do so.
After the uninstall a window will open asking you to scan your computer for left over remnants, once this is done you have the option to delete them. However check all the entries in the found items relate to Movie Edit Pro before deleting them.
The manual way is to follow this tutorial, you can also check your Windows system is correctly installed at the same time if you wish - if not skip steps 3 - 10.
Hi all...sorry for not getting back to you on this - I had to run out of town
Okay - I did the uninstall/re-install BUT, I don't seem to be able to re-install MEP Premium 2020 - download only brings in the upgraded 2021 version. I can't go back to 2020 (can I?).
So I went out and purchased a new video card: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650. I also bough some more RAM. No avail - same thing; nothing in the preview monitor, and transitions (3D) will not work (probably some of the effects as well). MEP is seeing the new card. So $300 later, I'm still out of luck. Any other suggestions? Is there a way to get back to the 2020' version? There obviously is no benefit in the upgrade for me.
Thanks Ray - that seems to be the ticket. I did somehow miss your previous link.
I wasn't able to download the Microsoft Fix-It tool - the page/link is in German and I wasn't sure what was on the page - so I followed John's Uninstall tutorial
I downloaded the 2020' version. On opening, I had a little problem with MEP not responding - had to END a couple times, but now it seems to be functioning fine: the preview monitor is working, and all the transitions are working as well. WHEW!
I guess, worst case scenario I got a better video card, and more RAM - and I was always happy with the 2020 (version)...so I'm a happy camper!
