Mov files from new iphones only play sound and no video

Eric-Childers wrote on 1/5/2022, 11:14 AM

I have seen this issue in the forum but the suggestions given are not working for me. I had an older iPhone X whose videos would fly into movie edit pro. The new iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 phones that I'm using now for work will not play the actual video. The sound comes through fine but the video screen remains blank. The video itself will play on my computer outside of the Magix software. Has anyone found a resolution to this?

Reinstalling QuickTime for Windows did not help nor did "unchecking" the option for hardware acceleration for playback if possible.

I am using Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium Version 20.0.1.73 and I'm working on Windows 10

@Eric-Childers

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We need more information:

  • Computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

  • Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

  • A screen shot of the Program settings, Display options tab.

  • Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial if you are not familiar with MediaInfo on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip to get the full data that you can post directly into a comment.

@Eric-Childers

I am using Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium Version 20.0.1.73

My version of 20 (MEP 2021) is 20.0.1.80.

Try Help>Update online. Be aware MEP may try to "upgrade" to version 21 (MEP 2022). You may not want to do that. 😉 There should be an option to merely "update" ie from 73 to 80.

Could you link, using Google Drive or Dropbox, to a short video from you new phones, for us to experiment with?

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
