Movie Edit Pro 14 has speaker problem (waveform, Realtek)

I'm evaluating the Movie Edit Pro 14, and created a simple project.

When I try playing content, whether a DVD track or a text effect, about half the time my laptop gives me this error:
Cannot open waveform device 'Speakers (Realtek High Definition)' for playback.  Unspecified external error.

Is this a known thing with a workaround?

It might be more that there is a problem with the Realtek driver. What you have is not actually a sound card; it is a sound chip, most likely an AC97 chipset. In extreme cases, even the graphics card driver can cause interruptions in the sound driver ability to process data, three things that are always important to upgrade in terms of drivers are DirectX from Microsoft, the Graphics Driver, and the Sound Driver.

I would only recommend that you see if there are any updated drivers available for that chipset... it might require you to contact the manufacture of the computer or the manufacture to the motherboard.

The most optimal option is getting a sound card that uses its own processing components separate from the motherboard.

They make soundcards for laptops... but you have to have a PCMCIA port.

Comparing other programs isn't something viable as they all process data in a different manor. It is more than likely that the way MAGIX processes audio sampling (16bit, 44.1KHz) or if your capturing 5.1 or dolby digital audio, you will definitely have issues with Realtek. Not that Realtek AC97 is horrible, it’s a playback chip, not a record & playback chip.

Other programs might not process the audio at that bit depth and sample rate. Maybe altering that in the program would help.

Open the program; press "Y" on the keyboard and look at the "Playback Tab", you might change the playback to the direct driver.

Otherwise, it could only be a driver related issue (could be other applications running causing the driver to be interrupted or the driver itself); unfortunately I am not that technically savvy.

Mine worked fine, but now it is not. Using Movie Edit Pro MX. Suddenly just stopped working and I am getting the exact same error message. :'(
