Movie Edit Pro 18 - using integrated AMD Ryzen video GPU

Jan-Kovac wrote on 9/26/2021, 5:00 PM

Currently I am using Intel QSV for preview and rendering on my relatively low end laptop and it makes a huge difference vs CPU rendering. I'm considering to buy a new laptop and not sure whether Movie Edit Pro will take advantage of the integrated  AMD Ryzen GPU's as opposed to dedicated AMD video card. If not I will go for recent Intel laptop with Iris GPU as QSV is supported. Anyone has experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Hi

. . . . Movie Edit Pro 18  . . . .

Which version of Movie Edit Pro (MEP) do you mean - MEP 18 (MX), MEP 2018 or version 18.x.x.xx ie MEP 2019?

There are issues with all three versions:

  1. MEP 18 (MX) then this not Windows 10 compatible and is likely to have issues running on Windows 10.
  2. MEP 2018 and 2019, these versions will not be able to take advantage of any GPU in a laptop that does not have an Intel processor with integrated GPU.

I would suggest:

  • you also upgrade the program to the latest version which can take advantage of Intel, Nvidia and AMD GPU's.
  • purchase a laptop with a 17" screen - 14 and 15" screens are to small, IMO, for video editing - full HD resolution (1920 * 1080) is sufficient, a 4K screen makes everything is too small for comfortable viewing/reading.
  • With a Nvidia GPU change the drivers from the Gaming Ready Driver (GRD) to Studio version

Personally I use a Lenovo Legion 5i Phantom 17" screen laptop - see my signature for specification.
