@Anthony-Andrianos

Welcome to the Magix forums.

The error message suggests a problem with the software and/or drivers for your AMD GPU. I would suggest you go on to the AMD Driver site and check for driver updates; the installer includes an option to reset and clean up the existing installation before you install the new drivers. I would suggest you use that option.

The main thing is can you create a new project ? If you can it just means the old project is now corrupted. If you can find a bak. file that is older than the last time the project worked then it may be possible to recover from that point. If not then you may have to recreate your project from scratch.

If you can't create a new project and save it then it's a different problem.

Hi Anthony.

Then it will be almost impossible to diagnose without a complete rundown of your computer build and Movie Edit Pro version and build. Do not add any product serial numbers or personal details.

Press where is says + Signature in blue lettering below my reply to see what I mean.

Also how much C: drive hard space may be relevant.

Knowing these things may enable someone here to recognise a possible bit of incompatible kit or advise on a setting you may need to change.

I may not be back for nine hours or so but will keep an eye to see if anyone else has tried to help you out. There are some very talented trouble shooters on this forum if they get enough information.

Sometimes this type of failure can be caused by a missing - or perhaps obsolete - Visual Basic C++ file. Or .NET Framework. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell you which one.

I don't know if MEP creates a log file when running. If it did, you could check a log file to see how far the program gets along before closing.

Started with MEP 11, then 17, then MX, then MEP 2013, 2015, then 2016. Changed to the fast competitor after that, which worked fine with my non-Intel hardware. Then bought a used Dell with an Intel GPU, just to play with MEP again. Installed MEP 2020 Plus in March 2020, even tho I don't like losing patches if I have to reinstall after a year.

Testing on a Dell Vostro, <s>i3-8100</s> updated to i5-9400 w/ UHD 630, 16 GB 2400 DDR4 (CL15), Win10 Home, heavily NTLite'd. Now with GTX-1650 Super OC'd. Added a WD Blue M.2 for OS (PCIe 3), Apps, Temps and Video-In. 2 Monitors. A WD Blue SSD for outputs. (SATA III.)

Hi Anthony.

How much free space is on your C: drive? MEP needs a fair amount free to run. We would recommend at least 35 gig free. If it is much less then maybe the program can't even load to start up.

Thanks for adding the signature. It helps a bit hence my question, as it's a relatively small C: drive. My C: drive only has operating system and programs on it and is taking up 147 gig of space on 500gig C: drive.

Hi

Have you set the 'Environment quality' to highest quality in the AMD graphics settings?

If so try setting "environment quality" to normal, then restart the computer - Windows button, Power, Restart - not a Shutdown, we need to ensure all drivers are reloaded on startup.

Is the graphics card overclocked?

20gb of space is definitely not enough spare space on your hard drive. The program is in my opinion probably not able to fully load on startup and stalling. Can't help you with the graphics card problem as I've never owned an AMD graphics card. John should be on line to help at some point.

Hi Anthony.

I did say 'at least' but it is also possible that you need to re-install the program. First I would really try to get as much free space as you can on your C: drive because re-installs can get messy (Hunting for leftover installed program files) if you can't clear all previous install files from your machine.

Also before that try turning off your machine and rebooting. Shut down using the Windows command to shut down. Don't force a shutdown. Use Windows / Power / Shutdown. If the projects are large you may need much more disk space free before it will load one, but if it a project at least opens it's a start.

Also don't attempt to open an old project until you can create a new one and use it and and save it and re-open it.

It could still be John EB's graphics driver suggestion but the fact you say you can't access projects you have been working on for months suggests to me the whole lot has corrupted the last time you shut down a large project.

If you can start a new project but can't open an old one, then see if you can't find a older Bak. file that will work within that project. If you can't do that then the project will probably no longer work and you will have to start again. This is why it is important not to try to open older projects first until you can get the program to work properly again.

When I had this problem on my old machine I could not open the most recent version of the last project I worked on and none of my Bak. files worked either.

Ray.

Hi

. . . . I cant find "Environment quality" anywhere in the radeon software app Am I looking at the wrong place? . . . .

If it is not there then your card may not have or it goes by a different name - the name I used is what I know it as from when I had a Radeon graphics card.

I would certainly try re-installing the program, use the free version of REVO Uninstaller to initiate the uninstall and cleanup afterwards before re-installing.

If the Radeon has been overclocked or set up for gaming then this may be an issue.

@Anthony-Andrianos

To find out exactly where the issue is, with MEP closed, use Windows Explorer and the the following into the address bar %appdata%\Magix, as shown below, then press Enter

In the right pane scroll down to the folder Videodeluxe22_variant ( Plus or Premium) and open it

Locate the files Videodeluxe.ini and Videodeluxe.log delete both.

Then start MEP.

If the program crashes, go back to the folder above and double click on the file Videodeluxe.log - it should open in notepad - copy and paste the contents into a reply.

Glad we could help. I think the files John pointed you to were older instalation files that MEP probably using tovtry to start the program remembering the old setup. Deleting them made MEP make new ones. I should also think you now have enough drive space free.

@Anthony-Andrianos, @CubeAce

Hi

The two files do the following:

Videodeluxe.ini - this file holds a lot of the program settings such as folder locations, windows/panes size positions etc etc.

If this is corrupted it can cause MEP to crash. It also gets reset to the default settings when your reset the program from within.

Videodeluxe.log - this file records the program activity from start-up to shut-down, it includes information on the modules that were started, stopped and other information about activities within the program.

The reason for deleting was to get an empty/clean log file at the start-up of MEP. At the point of the crash if there was one, we should be able to determine, alongside with the crash log what caused it.

HTH
