Movie Edit Pro - New version plus future features

browj2 wrote on 9/4/2017, 8:43 AM

A new version of MEP was announced today under News and on the Magix.com site. Interestingly, some future feature, for November, are also shown.

One thing that is indicated: "...you will discover fluid, real-time video playback up to 5 times faster – thanks to Intel GPU hardware acceleration." What does this mean? We keep seeing the promises of faster playback, but so far no one seems to have it. Is this for real or just the same old, same old?

For those who have active 365 update service, did you receive this upgrade? What about the add-ons?

Good catch. I initially read what I wanted to see, and read that as (non-Intel) GPU hardware encoding. But it doesn't say that. In fact, Magix keeps insisting that everyone (70‰) wants to use Intel based GPU's. Too bad. I can see my relationship with Magix is over. Especially as I head toward AMD.

Started with MEP 11, then 17, then MX, then MEP 2013, 2015, then 2016. Changed to the fast competitor after that, which worked fine with my non-Intel hardware. Then bought a used Dell with an Intel GPU, just to play with MEP again. Installed MEP 2020 Plus in March 2020, even tho I don't like losing patches if I have to reinstall after a year.

Testing on a Dell Vostro, <s>i3-8100</s> updated to i5-9400 w/ UHD 630, 16 GB 2400 DDR4 (CL15), Win10 Home, heavily NTLite'd. Now with GTX-1650 Super OC'd. Added a WD Blue M.2 for OS (PCIe 3), Apps, Temps and Video-In. 2 Monitors. A WD Blue SSD for outputs. (SATA III.)

On the Magix.com site: "By activating INTEL GPU hardware acceleration, enjoy 5X faster processing of your video footage. Even material up to 4K will play smoothly on your preview monitor."

I thought that we already had HW acceleration using the Intel Graphics card. Is there something new?

Other feature: "200 Multimedia tracks" - I presume that this is up from 99 tracks?

Me too! I'll investigate the latest MEPP myself when I finish my current (2016) project in a week or three. But keen to hear about this claim from the hardware experts meanwhile.

Other feature: "200 Multimedia tracks" - I presume that this is up from 99 tracks?

I occasionally set 32 and I have even used 64 when using complex collages in an already crowded project. But 16 is normally enough. So I'd be interested to know what sort of projects need over a hundred? I imagine it requires a lot of vertical scrolling!

My 2017, Movie Edit Pro Premium version 16.0.4.119 (UDP3), is still telling me there are no updates.

BTW, in MEPP 2016 I had no automatic notification, but I just used Help > Update online... and updated to version 15.0.0.114 (UDP3). Although I've not checked, it says that TRA is working again.

Hi Terry,

I have the same 2016 as you. I was sure that there was an update that I refused because it looked to be for advertising only. This was discussed in another thread.

Yes, TRA works. Did you see the thread in which we indicated that we were now getting Google maps in VPX? You may want to check 2017 for this.

The new version is being called 2018 unofficially, I believe.

Preparing to pack up and move from Isle-aux-Coudres to Île-d'Orléans for the rest of the week. I've been going through the photos and videos from this trip, but there is too much to keep up with, and a lot to sort out.

Hi John,

The version and product and year numbers continue to confuse me!

Yes, saw that TRA/GM discussion but have yet to try it.

I've been going through the photos and videos from this trip, but there is too much to keep up with, and a lot to sort out.

Same here. Only just sorted stuff from my recent fortnight's walking holiday. Expect to start work on that video in about six months at current rate!

Hi Terry,

We are now installed in the island. Thanks for the video. Is that VdG or Google?

Interesting thing with the new version. Yesterday, I wanted to see what the upgrade price was for Premium. I clicked on the Upgrade button on the Magix.com site, logged in, upgrade possibility was accepted and a price showed up. I exited. Today, Magix.com site indicates that the product (Premium only) is not available for my country. I should have accepted it yesterday. There are some addons that I thought would be interesting to have for the price.

Waiting for the ferry:

There is a very steep hill on the other bank and I had trouble pulling the tent trailer up the hill.

Hi John,

Hmm, mysterious pricing indeed. I wonder what Germans know about Canada that Canadians don't?

Looking at your route's elevation profile, I see what you mean about the steepness. But if you will drive around towing the Millennium Dome and all your furniture...

Video used Google Earth.
