Movie Edit Pro Plus 2017 close

ahmada wrote on 4/5/2017, 6:54 AM

Hi,

just bought the downloadable Movie Edit Pro Plus 2017 today. But every time when I try to import video from my hard drive or disc, it closed the program down. I used to have the Magix Edit Pro 17 Plus but I uninstalled it before I install the 2017 version because the older version did not work on a windows 10.

Can anybody help thanks in advance.

Hi

After installation and registration/activation of Movie Edit Pro 2017 did you:

  1. check for updates online - see under Help, Update online . . .

  2. install all the extras ie transitions, templates effects etc.

We also need more information:

  1. computer specification - include processor make/model, RAM quantity, graphics card make model if fitted, hard disc(s) sizes, free space and configuration and Windows version

  2. what format are the video clips you are trying to add to the timeline.

Ahmada, have you tried simply opening the mp4 files in MEP rather than converting them first?

avi is a file "container" format, not a specific file type. Depending on which program you are using to convert the mp4 to avi (with all its many variants), the conversion process itself may be making your files unplayable in MEP.

Also, you mention in your original question "windows 10" but the version you list in your specification is Windows 8, not even 8.1. At the least, I think you should update to 8.1.

Hi

Thanks for the specifications and file format information.

. . . . It's files that I convert from mpeg4 to avi from youtube. . . .

Can you use MediaInfo to analyse one of the files and post the results from the Tree view in MediaInfo, you will need to export the results File, Export to a text file and copy and paste the contents here.

MEP supports mp4 files directly, without the need for conversion, and those from Youtube do not usually cause any issues.

Hi johnbaker,

below is the tree that I paste from the video file. actually when I convert it back to mpeg4 it does works. I use the avi files for my karaoke software as it cannot play the mpeg4 format. My previous version of edit pro 17 plus works on the avi files, and I suppose a newer version should be even better.

Hi again ahmada.

Thanks for posting the MediaInfo details.

On a very quick read of those details two things strike me:

  1. Frame size of 856 x 468 is "unusual", to say the least. You need to ensure you set MEP Project settings to those figures.
  2. Video frame rate mode is listed as "variable", although apparently 25 fps?

Since MEP can handle the mp4 files, why not open an mp4, edit and then export from MEP in the avi format your karaoke software requires?

BTW, are you running Windows 8 or Windows 10?

Hi ali,

i'm running windows 10.

In which case your system specs you quoted above are wrong or out of date.

However, JohnEB and I have both pointed out that mp4s can be used in MEP without problem so have you tried loading the mp4 into it, editing, then exporting as .avi to suit your karaoke software? If you have tried this process, what was the result? Could your karaoke software read and play it?

Hi Jeff,

convert the mp4 to jpeg+avi with magix as it is a smaller file than the avi and try with my karaoke software and it

does work. just wondering why it cant work on other avi? can it be the codec?

I attached my system info to confirm that I'm using windows 10

Hi ali,

Many thanks for the update and I'm glad you've been able to achieve what you wanted.

can it be the codec?

Yes, quite possibly. Codecs can be many, extremely varied in quality and not always reliable!

You will see I have removed the image you posted. My apologies for this but it included your Windows Product ID which should never be disclosed to other users.

Thank you jeff, me being so naïve. just a question, regarding the magix video deluxe plus update, is it the update for the magix edit pro plus 2017? I can remember when I started using the magix software back maybe 10 years ago. it was call magix video deluxe.

Hi ali,

No worries, we are all learning!

As to updates, if you go to Help>Update online that will quickly check whether there is an update available for your installation.

Happy editing, converting and karaoke!

just wondering why do my MEP 2017 comes up with "the program stop working" and then restarting again whenever I exit the program after making my project

Hi again ali.

The answer to your question is quite honestly, no-one knows! You are far from being the first to report this and, as far as I can tell, no-one has discovered the answer. It's actually happened to me, on occasions, without warning. And then, equally suddenly, it stops happening.

Hi

IIRC this is actually a Windows issue and has been going for many years - sometimes if the program does not shut down quick enough Windows flags it as a crashed program and attempts a restart.

If you allow the MEP 2017 to restart, create a new blank project, wait a few seconds , then close MEP 2017, it should stop the restarting by Windows - at least until the next time Windows thinks it has crashed.
