Movie Edit Pro Premium freezing on 16g ASUS laptop

K-Frazier wrote on 7/20/2020, 12:44 PM

Experiencing dishardening program freezes on a great condition gaming computer with plenty of ram. I've tested the program on 3 different devices and it freezes on all 3 devices. No chance of refund and I'm seriously frustrated. Please help troubleshoot or recommend strong resolution on how to resolve.

Computer Info:

Windows 10

Quad-Core Intel Core i7-4720HQ processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 2GB GDDR5 dedicated graphics

@K-Frazier

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Is the laptop an Asus ZenBook Pro?

Movie Edit Pro requires the use of the Intel integrated GPU to ensure smooth playback and it is very likely that this is disabled, the GTX960 GPU cannot be used by Movie Edit Pro.

Check in the BIOS if the Intel GPU can be enabled.

If it can, then in the Windows Graphics settings, add Movie Edit Pro (VideoDeluxe) and set the Intel iGPU (Power saving) as the Graphics Performance preference - the image below shows my settings - your iGPU is the HD4600.

Note: if you are intending to work with 4K video on this laptop, the performance will be poor unless you use Proxy files in your project - this option can be turned on in the Project settings - and exporting to 4K will be slow - the HD4600 does not support 4K (UHD) video encoding and as I said above the GTX 960 cannot be used.

Yes it is intel integrated. I'm not doing 4k and just 1080. The program has very poor performance as opposed to the former Magix version. The computer info is here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T7XRH2A?tag=duckduckgo-exp-b-20&linkCode=osi&th=1

Hi Karlotto.

After you have made sure the Intel graphics is working as John has suggested can you answer the following questions?

Which of these drives (or combination) does your model have?

- 1TB HDD 5400 RPM
- 1TB HDD 7200 RPM
- 1TB HDD 7200 RPM With 128 GB SSD

How much spare space is on the C: drive?

Do you use other drives for the projects?

On reason for program freezing is not having enough hard drive space.

Ray.

its working a bit better.

i believe it's  1TB HDD 5400 RPM. I have 114gb free on the c:drive. i use a 1Tb external drive for mp4 and mvp file saves most of the time. the program has plenty of space on my gaming computer which is only used for video stuff. It's working a bit better since I took John EB's advice but I will know more tomorrow when i re-access the initial file that had alot of transitions for a commercial.

@K-Frazier

i believe it's  1TB HDD 5400 RPM

That 5400 RPM could very well be a contributory factor here, IMO.

Although your video data is on an external drive, the actual program is running from what is, today, quite a "slow" drive. It may be that the required data throughput is just too much for it to handle, especially if your footage has, as you say, a lot of transitions.

Of course, I could be completely wrong about this!

Hi

. . . . i use a 1Tb external drive for mp4 and mvp file . . . .

Do you mean the source video files used in the project are on the external drive, what make/model is the drive, is it USB 3 and what is the drive rpm?

The issue was resolved by using Proxy files in my project - this option can be turned on in the Project settings. I believe this resolved the problem. I will let you know if it freezes again now that the proxy files have been enabled.
