@Michel-Labbe

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There several things that will cause a freeze when importing video and un-installing re-installing will not fix them.:

  • The video encoding and/or the audio coding format may not be supported.

    Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial if you are not familiar with MediaInfo   on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip to get the correct data format for posting.

  • The graphics card drivers for the UHD 630 GPU are not up to date - the latest version is 31.0.101.2111

    If you have another graphics card installed check the the drivers for it are also up to date from the manufacturers website - do not rely on Windows to tell you if they are upto date - it is often behind the GPU manufacturers releases.

  • A setting in the program for the GPU to be used may be incorrect - a screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab would help

@Michel-Labbe

Hi

Your system is in GPU terms identical to mine.

If the UHD630 iGPU is not available for selection in the Program settings, Device options tab, then it needs enabling by either:

  • If you have only one monitor and it has a spare input connect this to the motherboard output or use a Headless Ghost

  • If dual monitor working plug one into the motherboard output - this is the way I have mine setup.

If the suggestions I made above do not fix the issue then can you upload a sample video clip from the same source to some where like Dropbox, Google Drive, Onedrive or WeTransfer for us to test.

@Michel-Labbe @johnebaker

Can I add one further item to the list of things to check, having experienced this myself:

Check the audio sampling frequency of your sound device (whatever it may be, i.e., internal or external) is set to whatever the setting is in MMS. I have an external audio interface, which is set to 48kHz and sometimes Windows decides to "make changes" and defaults to 44.1kHz (even with ALL Windows sounds turned off).

When attempting to use MMS or VPX and playback within either program freezes I then have to go into Sounds and reset its Playback audio settings, a pain!

Thanks! Upgrading the driver did the trick! I'm noting everything in case it happens again. Cheers!
