Hi,

I would suggest Music Maker Pro rather than Samplitude Pro or Samplitude Music Studio, as Music Maker can import a video clip and this helps synchronize music to video, assuming that this is what your daughter wants to do. The Samplitude Pro is at the high end of the market and may be overkill. However, you can download the trial versions and take a look. Music Maker Pro is currently on sale at a discount.

The laptop will need a microphone input and preferably a line input.

For video, Movie Edit Pro is both simple and powerful, and exchanges files with Music Maker.

Get a laptop with a lot of ram, at least 4GB, even if the Magix specifications call for 1GB minimum.

Enjoy,

John
