Music Maker not working

Riley-Coach wrote on 3/11/2024, 9:59 AM

I had some problems with Music Maker yesterday, slightly longer loading times, audio not working, and even freezing where it couldn't play the song I was in the process of making. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that seems to have made it worse, it doesn't stop loading, it stays frozen, and I can't do anything with it. I'm not sure what to do.

@Riley-Coach

Hi

. . . . I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that seems to have made it worse, . . .

Re-installing should be the option of last resort for fixing issues.

Assuming this is not a VST, Soundpool or Plug-in issue - using Windows file explorer browse to the following folder:

C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\mmxx where xx = a 2 digit number. If you are using MMM 2024 this will be 32.

Delete only the following files:

  • MusicMaker.ini
  • plugin_scan_state_VST2_x64.scan
  • plugin_scan_state_VST3_x64.scan
  • plugin_scan_state_VST2_x32.scan
  • plugin_scan_state_VST3_x32.scan

Start Music Maker - startup will take longer than is normal while the VST scans are taking place.

@Riley-Coach Usually, reinstalling will do nothing, because the program settings are saved separately. If you install the software again, it will revert to the settings before the uninstallation.

I recommend you restart your computer regularly by selecting the Restart option and not the Shut down option. This will reset the drivers and background services of Windows to a stable state. If you don't restart for many weeks, the computer may become unstable.

Additionally, I recommend you open the Music Maker program settings, click on the Audio MIDI tab, select an ASIO driver, for example the Music Maker ASIO driver or Magix Low Latency driver. Next, click on the Advanced button next to the driver selection to open the driver settings. There you can select your audio input and audio output and set the sample buffer size to something reasonable like 512 samples (or higher). This should lead to a more stable audio playback in Music Maker.

I tried this and deleted the last first files you said, except the first; MusicMaker.ini, as I could not find that file, but I'm still unable to use Music Maker, it still isn't loading properly, and it still won't play any tracks either, plays for about a second then stops, no sound.

Hi

If File Explorer is not showing file extensions, the MusicMaker.ini will look like this when the File Explorer view is set to Details - with a different date and file size:

These are the existing files in mm32 that I have, including the files you suggested I delete.

@Riley-Coach

Hi

The file to delete is the MusicMaker configuration settings file

Depending on the Windows version there is a difference between the naming used for the file Type column, the first image I posted was from Windows 11 22H2, the above Windows 11 23H2.

When requested to delete, locate specific files, and you are given the file extension, if you turn on the Show file extensions option in Explorer it would make searching easier for yourself.

Hi,

I lost all my work because it saying I am past the demo time!

If you are talking about Music Maker, I highly doubt that - it's free, there is no demo.

Hi

Can you post a screenshot of the start page and error message, keep them at full size and do not crop the images and if your email address is showing obscure it.

Please accept my apology,

I was frustrated thinking that this software had failed on both my desktop and my new laptop.
I got angry and said bad thing about your software! Sometime latter I found not only did your
Software failed but Bitwig software and MikuMikudance and Blender and GOG Galaxy and it was GOG than gave me info to why there software failed and it was  Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable that was causing the problem! I reload what Microsoft had and all my programs are working! But for me the funny
Thing is both PC failed at the same time and the desktop has WIN10 the new laptop has WIN11 on it!

I let Microsoft know that this happen.
Again I apology for saying bad things!

These are user to user forums, not Magix Support and none of us work for Magix, so the software is not our software.

Nevertheless, I am delighted to hear that you were able to resolve the problem you were experiencing.

I did this, as well as re-deleted the other ones, and I'm still not getting anything. Is this file supposed to reappear like the other ones do? Cuz it hasn't yet.
