My friend is using Music Studio Generation 5.0 Deluxe. How can he upgrade his .msp files to work with a new version of Magix Music software?

A friend of mine is using Music Studio Generation 5.0 Delux.

The files generated for all his music are .msp and he is looking to buy a new version of Magix music software for his new laptop.  (Yes he is still using a Windows 98 laptop for all his gigs that has never seen the internet.)

Can we export his .msp files to midi files or anything else?

Thanks,

-A Musicians Friend.

He cannot.

Gen 5 used a 8 bit system, at the time Windows 97 was the newest OS for Windows, replacing the Windows 95 system.

Today, Windows is using a 64 bit OS, which means it can support the 32 bit system fine, but not down to the 8 bit. in fact the last OS that would support the Gen 5 would be Windows ME, I think even the NT format of Windows 2000 would be problematic for the Gen 5 software.

The only thing you can do is save out each track maybe as a individual wave file, from a computer that can run the Gen 5, then import each into a new project in the new Music Studio program. Tedious work, but at least the sounds are available again.
