New Interface .... Comments

Kami_1 wrote on 9/13/2017, 2:51 PM

Referring to the icon selection in the Media Pool. I hate it -- much prefer the list -- and was wondering how others feel. See attachment.

,

Also, how selecting an object seems to work. I can't just select it as I've been doing for years. Either the pointer must be on the top edge, or the vertical pointer has to be dragged to the object. What you see on the MEP monitor is only where the vertical cursor is, not what's highlighted. Very annoying, slows down my work process.

Hi Kami

What is the version number of Movie Edit Pro you are using?

. . . . What you see on the MEP monitor is only where the vertical cursor is, not what's highlighted. . . . .

Check that this option is set

Oh geez.... I didn't see that. Thank you. It's V. 17.01.130. I still hate the new Media Pool interface.

Hi Kami

As luck would have it, the update for MEP decided to kick in shortly after I posted above, so I can now see the new look.

If I were to make an educated guess, I would say the new look is to give larger buttons to users who are using MEP on tablets and touch screens. Using MEP on a device such as a Surface Pro can be a nightmare with the text options of previous version when using the touch screen and no mouse.

That makes sense, but they could still offer a choice for those of us using at least one large monitor. Did you have any install issues?

johnebaker wrote on 9/13/2017, 5:46 PM

Hi Kami

No install issues went straight through, just installing all the extras now.

At a quick glance, one advantage of the new icons is you can see clearly the full name of the effects instead of the cut off names in the old versions.

I don't like the letter cut-off, but I'm so used to those I use it rarely bothers me. Could never understand the cut-off, since there's plenty of horizontal space.

How long did the downloads take for you, as opposed to downloads elsewhere? I have 50 MB/s, but it's like using an old modem when d/l'ing from Magix.

I don't like it either, it looks weird tbh

The download speed you experience will depend on the type and number of 'shares' per connection at the box and whether the shared connection is cable or fibre optic.

From start to finish, ie download to install complete, for the update and all the extras - about 75 mins, however I am on 75 Mb/s broadband which does download at the top speed and I was downloading when most people are in bed in the EU and UK 😀.

That was longer than my time. I'm on fibre optics. OK, when's a good time to download from Magix? 🙂

Hi Kami

. . . . when's a good time to download from Magix . . . .

I do not know if there is one, I have found after midnight is usually better, however that may be due lower contention and also depends on where the download server that you connect to is located.

. . . . I have 50 MB/s . . . . That was longer than my time. I'm on fibre optics. . . . .

Can you clarify - 50 MB/s or 50 Mb/s, broadband/cable speeds are usually measured in bits/s (lower case b) not Bytes/sec (upper case B).

@tonytoes

It is very heartening to read that you have been able to speed up your workflow following the install of the latest version of MEP...

... but the originator of this thread was specifically commenting on the user interface of the new version (along with the issue of download speeds)!!

I think your post would be better placed as the start of a new thread. It is always good to read of happy users!

I also hate the new button interface and I really hate that every time I want to turn off/on MEP there are ads and though I click the "do not show again" box it still shows again.
