I have never worked with video editing before and am intimidated every time I start a project. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get started.

See John CB's excellent tutorial here - although this is for an earlier version of Movie Edit Pro (2015) the principles are the same for earlier and later versions.

And then watch my tutorial on . For some reason, it did not get published in Magix.info.

I'm working on the next one about cutting and trimming. Should be done within a week.
