No audio from .mts files

Glenn-Woiler wrote on 3/27/2019, 6:46 PM

So, I been editing from .mov files as there have been a few updates. I go to do a quick edit from my old Panasonic camera - .mts files, and no audio! I reboot, restart, let the latest update install.... nothing. I was in a hurry! What is up? I guess I need to unpack the other laptop [traveling] and edit in resolve? What is going on??? .mp4 files play audio... .mov files play audio... but no to .mts. I am on a Lenova laptop with 8 gigs ram, Windows 7 pro, and it has been solid... The files play audio just fine from Windows Explorer.

I am up to this version. Not sure why no audio. Nothing has changed. Strange

This sounds familiar to me too, but backwards. I could edit Panasonic.mts files for years, I did an edit with Apple.mov, things went downhill (no audio) and I had to wipe my disc, reload Win10 and everything else before VPX worked correctly again.

Looking back, it been a pretty regular procedure for me.

Not a good prospect. I think first I wold rather roll back to the 15.xxx series of VPX before messing with Windows 7. I did edit a project last week... oh... that was .mp4...! So, Maybe .mts files have not worked since going from 15 to 16? ahhhh.....

Hi

Do you lose the audio on existing projects only or does it occur in a new project as well?

Have you tried resetting the program back to its default settings - File, Settings, Reset program to defaults - note this will reset any customisations you have made to the folder locations etc.

Audio plays from a project made with the older version of VPX. So... now what? Nothing that I can figure, has changed. The .mts files play back fine from double clicking in the explorer [file manager]. I did reset VPX and then had to go reconfigure folders and other little presets. I am stuck.

I went to use some clips from a year ago and there was no audio. I tried clips that I never used, and clips that had been used in VPX long ago. No waveform on the timeline clip.

BINGO. Downloaded the update that it requested, and .mts files now play audio. Thanks! What is strange is, I could open an old project and the audio played fine. I could create a new project, and take the same video clip, and VPS would not play the audio. Go figure. Thanks again. 😊

Glenn-Woiler wrote on 3/28/2019, 6:35 PM

Just one more thing.... I imported all the "problem" files, and all had audio except the first which had a file name of 0000.mts I renamed it with a word instead of zeros, and it played audio. Very strange. I made sure I deleted any created files from VPX first though. OK.... Never use a file name with all zeros!~

@Glenn-Woiler
Sometimes the program asks you to download and other times you need to make the surround change in audio settings. I panicked when it first happened to me because all my sony and canon cameras are mts.
Glad it worked.
Doug.

I have the new BMPCC4K and will not be using the Panasonic camera much anymore... but to get blindsided was a surprise!

BM emailed me today and gave this fix... very similar...

<<The error is related to a Windows update which causes problems with the AC3 stereo sound. However, there is a way to work around the error:>>

Please try this:

1. Start the program and create an empty project. There you can import any video or photo file
2. Click on "File > Export movie > Video as MPEG video...". (NOT MPEG4!)
3. select preset "Standard PAL AC3"(or NTSC, depends on your location) and start export
4. Now a message should appear to download an extension package. Download this one

The problem should be solved afterwards.

Thank you for contacting Magix Support.

Best regards,
Tobias Schröder
