No audio with wmv import no audio or video with AVI Import

ThrowIngInBin wrote on 5/15/2013, 5:26 PM

Just a general question and hoping that a general answer will suffice. Have the settings you initially make to Magix MEP changed from previous versions?

1. With my older Windows Xp computer, and using an earlier version of Magix Movie Pro (i can't access it right now to give you the version), i could instantly import avi video into the project's editing window.

2. With the above combination i could likewise import instantly a WMV video with audio intact of course.

I decided to purchase the newer 'Movie Edit Pro 13 Plus' and am also using Windows 7 (i don't want 8). All my other video and audio applications work perfectly in W7.

I can load a WMV video but there is no audio!

I can't load an AVI video at all.

I know form my searches here there is a stock answer being used for anything to do with AVI, namely it's a container etc. However, my older versioin of Magix was able to load any avi file.

Can someone please advise, many thanks in advance if so.

Hi,

Difficult to offer a helpful answer without specific files to study.

Can you upload a small example of WMV and AVI problem files so that we can try to reproduce the issue?

Meanwhile, what does MediaInfo or GSpot report for each of them?

And we're going to need that previous version.

Hi,

This may be a dumb question but do you mean that you don't hear any audio or that you can't see the audio track?

I got caught by that when I first tried MEP 2013 because the default sets both audio and video on one track. (previous versions did not allow this)

I have also had problems with AVI files when I did not have the right CODEC installed on my system.  If you double click on the AVI file will your default player play it with both audio and video?

Without the specific information that Terry requested, this is about as generic an answer as you can really get.

Firstly, terrypin and gandjcarr many thanks for the help it's much appreciated. I do need to ask what are GSpot and MediaInfo, are they third party applications? I'm already annoyed that i seem to have downloaded a third party application during installation thinking it was part of the Magix Movie Edit Pro system. If i can find out on the internet that i can safely delete 'Simplicheck' i will be doing so instantly. I've got to hope it hasn't put any hooks into the system that make it not able to be removed.

This is a new computer and i'm trying to keep it as clean and streamlined as possible and don't want any clutter that duplicates services and programmes either built into my computer or downloaded/purchased by myself. Whilst one expects to be bombarded with 'extra' apps when downloading free software from the internet, it's not good that one has to negotiate and click away trying to avoid them in a purchased product. And as i say it looks like i've been caught out with this 'Simplicheck' thing grrRRR lol lol.

Regarding my working version of the product on my other computer, i'm puzzled as to why you need to know that, my problem is with 'MEP 2013 Plus' on my new Windows 7 computer.  But of course i can give you the details, my other PC is Windows XP Professional and the Magix product is 'Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus'. I've just tested it again and it instantly loads both mpeg AND avi with full sound and video displayed in the project video monitor.

Before i read up on how to upload a sample file on here i'll see if i can get it solved by giving you the info below. Again many thanks to you.

Granjcarr's reply looks promising regarding (lack of) codecs being the likely cause. Only thing is that i bought MEP because this new version in the advertising blurb gave a very long list of all the various file types it can play, meaning one wouldn't have to go trawling the internet for all manner of codecs as they are built in? gandjcarr you say you didn't have the right codec, so which one solved it and where did you get it from.

OK on to how the AVI file responds in the various media players and MEP.

MEP: No video and no audio. As mentioned i can't get it to upload into a project/video monitor etc. Dragging, menu options, right-click all result in nada.

VLC Player: Plays the avi file picture and audio perfectly.

WMP: Has audio but no video.

Real: Has audio but no video.

QuickTime: Has audio but no video. It produced a pop-up saying you need to download additional software and gave a link. This took me to a page that was useless in that it had a list of such plug-ins/apps such as CC, DivX, XVId etc (i'm sure i may have them already installed as part of my computer system, hopowever, it gave no indication as to which one(s) i need to download?

Hopefully some of the above will help in pinpointing where the fault lies???

If you don't want it just remove it with Add/Remove Programs.

Because it provides an obvious basis for comparative tests when we see your file.

Not really.

My question was were they third party applications and not part of MEP, also especially important i wanted to know if i could SAFELY uninstall them, which you have answered. Seeing as you've replied with two links i'm presuming they are third party. Not happy with clicking either link for the following reasons.

1. mediainfo.....do they not have their own site? why do they use a third party to host their product?

2. Ok i often run links for software etc through 7 security portals. I've set up a page on my computer so that when you enter a url it runs it through them all and opens each report up in a separate tab. For the 'headbands' link one of them has a preview image showing actual headbands lol, and also the text (i've asterisked out the address) "Welcome to *****Jewelry.c*m! We strive to bring you the most coveted, fashionable and affordable fashion jewelry around. It is a constant search for us, from the catwalks of Fashion Week to the ladies strutting down Main Street USA and of course the celebrities prancing down the red carpet, we research all of it just for you." Ok no GSpot downloading for me. Again why do they not have their own site for their product?

Awww! lol regardng my post not helping, i did answer the questions asked of me. Whilst i'll gladly bow to your superior knowledge  i still don't know why you wish to compare different MEP products on different computers when my only problem is with MEP 2013 Plus on my new Windows 7 computer? I'll be throwing the older one out soon and not using the older version of MEP. I'm so lost why you want to compare the two MEP's and their codecs etc. This new MEP 2013 and new computer have no interaction with the other computer or older product. Both might as well be in a house at the other end of the country.

UPDATE: Looking through the pdf manual there is a section that says "Free activation of codecs. Order activation code online
Click on "Order online..." (Field 1). MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2013 will automatically
contact the MAGIX server and load the corresponding codec.

However, i've gone through every menu option i can find within the interface and nowhere do i find the option to "Order Online". Where is "Field 1"??? Where is the "Order Online" option? Too be honest with respect, i did swear to never ever touch a Magix product again because with the previous version so many times it would say in the manual to do a single click on something and it either had zero effect or as in this case the option is nowhere to be found. I'm hoping it's just me looking to hard, so can anyone help with the two questions above as well?

ThrowIngInBin wrote on 5/22/2013, 3:39 PM

After being warmed by receiving an initial reply on here, i see that the appalling non-existant support and sheer ignorance of the old MEP still exists. ESPECIALLY when i pointed out some startling pitfalls and faults and very strange links. No reply comes back to explain.

I've gone through hours of hell since i last posted - absolutely nothing new there with a Magix product.. As with the earlier version (when i swore to never ever touch a Magix product again) the most basic things in their manual and instructions DO NOT WORK OR CAN NOT BE FOUND, DESPITE THEM POINT BLANK REFERRING TO THEM.

At the moment, despite exiting every way possible and attempting to close the edit window every way possible, i  can not get any window up except the edit one!!! I've cleared every cache i can think of on my computer etc. Every time i open up MEP it opens up with the edit window and showing a list of file on my computer. I can't open any other window.

THE SOUND FARCE HAS WORSENED A THOUSAND FOLD. NOW IT SAYS THERE IS NO LINE INPUT ETC ETC I CAN ASSURE YOU THERE IS, AS IT SHOWS UP ON TWO AUDIO RECORDERS I HAVE.

CAN NOBODY EVEN ANSWER THIS QUESTION FROM BEFORE......OR IS SILENCE A DAMNING TELLING FACTOR "Looking through the pdf manual there is a section that says "Free activation of codecs.

Where is the "Order Online" option?""

I can think of dozens upon dozens of free or simplest audio/video applications that are on the internet that when you download them, they all instantly are able to connect to your sound card/line in etc etc etc etc MEP seems to have NIL audio codecs, near to nil video codecs, despite the reason i decided to give MEP a second go with their new modern version being becaus eof their long list of media that it can cope with lol lol lol lol ever get the feeling you've been had? i certainly have.

If i don't get the most basic aspects working in the next few days, i will spend year after year after year seeking out every forum i can find and detail the myriad of faults both in the older version and this new one. Too be honest i feel as if i've been mugged/robbed/conned ONCE AGAIN by Magix. Ok it's a personal opinion but i think they are blatant THIEVES!

Censure this if you will, it's ok that will annoy me further and i'll set up a separate website or blog from my current one and display the screenshots of this thread and detail the farce of trying to get the most basic audio and video to work in MEP, and their farcical manual that tells you to do single acts and presses of a key..that do NOT work full stop do not work. Their suggestions and links often lead into thin air..they are NOT there.
