No picture with MOV file

I'm loading an MOV file and there's sound but NO picture.  It was recorded on a friend's Sony video camera (not sure which model, but it was a fairly high-end professional HD unit).

The video plays back on this Windows 7 machine fine with VLC Media Player, but not with Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or Magix Movie Edity Pro 2014.  I'm guessing this is a codec issue.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi

AFAIK no Sony video camera uses the MOV format - all the HD Sony's I have seen and handled use the AVCHD (mts)  format.

I would suspect that the video has been converted from the original recording format to make the file sizes smaller.

Check that your Quicktime installation is up to date.
