No sound on VST instruments

Campbell-McMahan wrote on 6/28/2025, 10:06 PM

I am using Music Maker 2024. Upon opening a VST instrument I am unable to click a note on the keyboard and hear the instrument. Likewise, although it registers that a note is being played on the keyboard no sound is generated. I have checked in Project Settings and it appears that the Asio driver is no longer there. When I play a track, however, all instruments are playing.

I am using Windows 11.

@Campbell-McMahan No ASIO driver, no sound while pressing keyboard keys or placing notes in the MIDI Editor.

ASIO driver selection is under the Audio/MIDI tab in the program settings, not the project settings.

That's right, I should have typed that it was in the Audio/Midi tab in the program settings. Nonetheless - as before after selecting the ASIO driver and Music Maker Asio it defaults to 'none'.

@Campbell-McMahan Ok. Have you tried restarting the computer? Please select the Restart option and not the Shut down option, otherwise it might not help. If you cannot select the ASIO driver after restarting, there could be a more severe problem.

Yes, I've restarted it and installed updates as well.

@Campbell-McMahan Hmm, ok. What is your default Windows playback device? I assume the driver wants to access it but can't, for some reason.

You can try and install another ASIO driver, for example the newest version of ASIO4ALL.

Press Windows key + CTRL + V on your keyboard to open the device selection.

It seems to be working now. I was able to change from Primary Sound Driver to Speaker on the audio playback tab in Program Settings>Audio/Midi after it had defaulted to Direct sound. Once that was selected it allowed me to select Music Maker Asio under the ASIO driver tab.
