Hi John,

1. For source info see below.

2. Using an AMD Phenom 2 computer and using VPX 16.02.317. I have used VPX many times already.

Zy Play is an Android app I have used to record video as I am using their gimbal Zhiyun Smooth 4.

I used the same link to test and downloaded the mp4 file. From there I acquired the source info with media info as stated below.

The video can be viewed with a media player (even with windows media player) but with VPX only a black screen is shown.

Kind regards,

Marcus

@marcusdeman

Hi

Thanks for the MediaInfo data - that confirmed what I was suspecting - the video is variable framerate with a wide range as shown in the MediaInfo section:

Frame rate mode                          : Variable
Frame rate                               : 29.642 FPS
Minimum frame rate                       : 7.526 FPS
Maximum frame rate                       : 30.060 FPS

VPX handles a constant framerate better than variable - you need to run the video clip(s) through a video converter which will convert to a constant frame rate - in your case 29.97 fps.

I and several users in the forum use MovAvi (paid for) however there are free ones such as Any Video Converter, however you will need to check that you can specify a fixed frame rate.

Hi John,

Thank you for the analysis and your solution.

I used Avidemux and convert the video with a constant FPS. VPX is now able to

show thumbnails of the video though it is still very slow to edit. Even for a small video.

I'll have to resort to another editing program.

Thanks for the help John!

@marcusdeman

Hi

Pleased to hear that the issue is sorted.

. . . . AMD Phenom 2 . . . . though it is still very slow to edit . . .

Without knowing the full specification of the PC, as requested, I would suspect, from the processor it has, that the PC is struggling to run VPX with Full HD video, probably because there is no Hardware Acceleration to help speed up editing, ensure smooth preview playback and faster rendering/exporting.

If the PC is also running Windows 10 and only has 8GB of RAM, then this also does not help.

Hi,

Yes the pc may not be the fastest this day and age for editing but I started encountering this
after taking footage with the Zy Play app. Normally I can just edit 1080p footage without
any issues.

Best regards,

Marcus
