Objects in timeline not playing back video but plays back sound

Movie Studio 2024 Platinum

I created a 7 Hour and 30 minute timeline. I was intending to export it in smaller chunks, but I was curious to attempt to export it as a whole. Since the export was taking way too long, I canceled the export. I started to cut and paste smaller chunks of the larger timeline into smaller independent timelines within the same project. I noticed that there were no thumbnail images in the objects. I attempted to playback the objects but there was no video and the sound kept going in and out. I did some troubleshooting and determined that there wasn't any software or hardware issues or problems with the original raw videos. The project itself somehow became corrupted. Is there anyway to fix or restore this project?

You can try opening a backup: File>Load backup project

If that doesn't reveal your backup files, search your system for "MV_" files. They are the Magix project files created as per the settings on the "System" tab in Program Settings.

When you find them, simply change the file extension from "MV_" to MVP and they will open in Magix.

Hi

. . . .  I started to cut and paste smaller chunks of the larger timeline into smaller independent timelines within the same project. . . . The project itself somehow became corrupted. Is there anyway to fix or restore this project? . . . .

This method can be prone to introducing errors, there is a better and quicker way with no copy and pasting.

Position the timeline cursor at the split point then use Edit, Cut, Split movie - keyboard shortcut Alt + Y

Rinse and repeat for the whole movie.

I would also suggest renaming the new movie, right click its tab for the options, after each split and save the project regularly using Save project as and add a vrsion number to the name.

. . . . search your system for "MV_" files . . . .

The backup files should be in the same folder you saved the project to, use the date/time created to determine the latest version, and work backwards in time until you get a good one.

The backup system keeps up to 10 copies, and are numbered from 0 through to 9, however when 9 is reached the next backup starts at 0 again, subsequent backups deleting the oldest.

Note: there is an issue with the forum uploading images and video, Magix are aware and looking into it.

John, they should be... but here, at least, they almost never are, or if they are, the program often doesn't pick them up. Backup has been borked for ages. The sure-fire method is to look for the MV_ files, hence my comment.
